There are basically two speeds for the weeks leading up to Halloween: the fun and frighteners. Either you just want to dress up as their favorite movie hero, or you want to go full-zombie and scare the wits out of people.
Or, maybe you want someone to scare the wits out of you. If that's what you're looking for, you'll want to check out McKamey Manor.
Billing itself as America's scariest haunted house, McKamey Manor is the ultimate challenge for fans of frights. If you can make it through either the manor in Summertown, Tennessee or the one in Huntsville, Alabama, after spending at least 10 hours inside, you'll walk away $20,000 richer.
But be warned: nobody has ever done it before.
What kind of horrors you'll experience inside the house is not clear, because let's face it, the surprise is half the experience. However, photos on McKamey Manor's website show some pretty disturbing things, like people being force-fed, tied up in water, bound with tape, shoved into a freezer, and more.
First of all, you have to be at least 21 years old to enter, or have your parents' permission if you're 18-20. You also have to pass a physical and mental health check, including a doctor's note, pass a background check, go through a screening via Facebook, FaceTime, or over the phone, provide proof of medical insurance, create a safe word, and pass a drug test.
If you qualify after all that, you have to sign a 40-page waiver. Finally, when you're there, you have to watch a two-hour video, and you're encouraged to make a donation to enter. Only then will you be ready to step foot inside the manor.
Visitors are prohibited from doing things like cursing, drinking, smoking, eating, running, or touching the actors or props. Infractions might not immediately disqualify you, but they can cut into the cash.
Not that it's ever come up, of course, because nobody has ever managed to stay inside for long enough.
