Mark Ronson Apologizes For Coming Out As Sapiosexual: It Was 'Just Embarrassing'

Grammy award winning music producer Mark Ronson, behind such famous bangers like "Uptown Funk," "Shallow," and "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart," recently made headlines when it looked like he revealed some big personal news on Good Morning Britain earlier this month.

In case you missed it, 'Good Morning Britain' broke the story with Mark first.

Good Morning Britain

The show ran a segment about French equality minister Marlene Schiappa being mocked for being a sapiosexual, and host Kate Garraway turned to Ronson and asked if he identified as a man who is sexually attracted to intellect.

"Yeah, I didn't know that there was a word for it," Ronson replied.

“We were all arguing backstage in the dressing room with a couple of your producers,” he continued, "and yes, I feel like I identify as sapiosexual.”

A sapiosexual, for the record, is someone who is attracted to intelligence, rather than gender or appearance.

While the term is a controversial one, comedian Dane Cook has also adopted the identifier for himself, claiming that intelligence is more important to attraction than any other factor.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Ronson has rolled back his remarks.

“I do not consider myself part of any marginalized community and I apologize if anybody misunderstood or took offense to it," he started off.

“It sounds like I went on a TV show to be like, ‘Guys, I have some big news!’"

"And the fact that I would go on and sort of declare myself — like as a heterosexual white male — part of any marginalized community was terrifying to me, or just embarrassing.”

Ronson said he didn't fully grasp the context of what he was agreeing to.

He said "They explained it as, 'Well, when you’re attracted to intelligence.' And I said, 'That sounds great. Of course, who wouldn’t be?'" without understanding that the word had a significant and controversial meaning.

"And they were like basically like, ‘OK, Mark Ronson identifies himself as sapiosexual, that’s great.'"

“And then they proceeded to ask me about Miley Cyrus’ dating life and something else I probably wasn’t that informed to talk about, either, and then that was it.”

Ronson had initially hoped people would take his comments in context.

“But that’s not what happens on Twitter anymore,” he added.

Do you think everyone blew Mark's comments out of proportion? Or should he have thought before he spoke?
