Greta Thunberg Brings The Shade After Trump Mocks Her On Twitter

We are living in dramatic times, and much of the drama plays out in real time on Twitter. Say what you want about social media, and Twitter in particular, but there are few, if any, better ways to stay in touch with happenings in the world.

Also, the back-and-forths folks get into are genuinely entertaining.

On Monday, September 23, teen climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed the United Nations with a speech aimed at climate deniers and inaction by world leaders on climate change.

Her words weren't as uplifting as some might have hoped — rather, she took the adults in the audience to task for the state of the world they would be leaving their kids.

"I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to me for hope? How dare you!"

"You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words," she said. "And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!"

While tough talk might have stirred and inspired some in the audience, that was obviously not the case for the President of the United States.

Rather, President Trump responded to the doom and gloom in Greta's speech with mockery on Twitter, sarcastically suggesting that she's "a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."

Trump might have earned his reputation as a Twitter troll, but Greta was paying attention, and she has some game, too.

When she saw what the president had written, she brought the shade, but she did it subtly, changing her Twitter bio to read "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future," basically turning Trump's mockery back on him.

Now, people are obviously going to take sides in pretty predictable ways in this budding feud.

We're talking about two of the most polarizing figures in the world right now, one a teenager and the other the most powerful man in the world.

But Twitter's pretty sure Greta won this round.

It just goes to show, you don't mess around with teen girls on social media!
