Good Boy Doggo Learns To 'Buy' Himself Treats

You know what's one incredible advantage to the internet? We get to hear about all the amazing dogs in the world that we wouldn't have otherwise even known about. We get to watch videos of dogs trying to get through fences and of puppies getting stuck under chairs. We get to see grown dogs playing hide-and-seek with babies, and we get to see tiny dogs paddle through swimming pools. It's amazing.

This is the story about a dog in Colombia who really loves his treats. As you know, most dogs like treats, but most don't go out and buy their own.

This one does.

This sweet dog has learned to "buy" his own treats.

The dog hangs out at the Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare in Colombia, where the faculty give him food, water, and a safe place. In return, he's almost a guardian for the school.

It's a pretty good deal, but the dog decided that he wanted just a little more.

The campus has a store where students can buy snacks, and sometimes they'd buy the dog cookies.

This is where the dog got an idea.

"He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange," a teacher, Angela Garcia Bernal, said. "Then one day, spontaneously, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie."

It worked, and he got his cookie!

Now he'd realized that leaves could buy him treats!

You see, it's pretty easy for a dog to find a leaf, so this exchange became a regular occurrence. Now he goes to the store every day and buys himself a cookie with a leaf. He's actually been doing it for years.

The store attendants make sure he's only "buying" cookies that are safe for him to eat, and they limit him to just a couple a day.
