One local church in Dallas has sought to inspire others with its recent massive act of kindness.
The church's sizeable donation to local families has taken social media by storm.
The act has been widely regarded as a staggering act of kindness from the church, and they hope that this will inspire other churches to follow in their footsteps.
Josh Howerton, Lake Pointe Church Pastor, explained that certain families who have been selected by the church will receive a letter which details the conditions of the deal which completely absolves them of their outstanding medical debt.
In an interview with Fox 4 News, Pastor Howerton read aloud from one of the letters:
"We are pleased to inform you that you no longer owe the balance on the debt referenced above to the above provider. Our forgiveness of the amount you owe is a no strings attached gift. You no longer have any obligation to pay this debt to anyone at any future time."
Howerton explained, "Some of them were people who are making less than two times the federal poverty rate. Some of them were insolvent. That means their debts are greater than their assets. Some of them are veterans."
Lake Pointe Church is a remarkably contemporary church, boasting over 10,000 members, a wide variety of locations, and it even has its own singles mixer events. Because nothing says fun like a Church singles mixer!
Howerton expressed his thanks to the people who had donated for their generosity and for helping to spread the word of God:
"We just feel like God has been so generous to us. We wanted to take our 40th anniversary to celebrate that in an outpouring of generosity to other people.
"This week when everybody wakes up and they get the letter that says their debt has been canceled, we want them to know that we love them. We also want them to know they're loved by God."
Lake Pointe Church has two lead pastors, Steve Stroope and Josh Howerton, and was founded in 1979.
Back in July of this year, Grand Rapids First Worship Church cleared almost $2 million worth of medical debt, helping around 2,000 families accoreding to CBS News.
As this is only the beginning of Lake Pointe Church's "Pay It Forward" campaign, you can expect more charitable donations from Lake Pointe in the coming future!
