NBC Slut-Shamed Monica In The Pilot Episode And Audience Fought To Keep It In

Oh, well this is interesting. We know that Friends has been pretty problematic before, but to cut a story because it was too problematic? Which one could it be?

There's only one way to find out!

Ah, 'Friends'. One of the greatest sitcoms of all time.

NBC

The show has produced so many laughs over the years, it's hard to choose a favorite episode. Maybe "The One With Unagi? Maybe it's "The One With All The Rugby"?

Who knows.

Unfortunately, they've have their share of no nos in the past.

NBC

It came out in the '90s, it was a different time. People weren't as woke as they are now.

Because of that, there's some homophobia and racism in some of these episodes.

But there was one odd story they wanted to cut.

NBC

Throughout all the stories, there was one that was odd they didn't want to put in... and it was in the pilot.

So Monica goes out on her first date with Paul the wine guy...

And she sleeps with him.

NBC

Apparently, Don Meyer, who was then the head of NBC, took real issue with that.

He said that we wouldn't like her if she gave it up so easily (paraphrasing).

But the audience was the one that actually fought to keep the storyline in because they loved her! Good job audience!
