People Are "Fixing" Pictures With Sharpie After Trump's Marked Up Hurricane Map

You know about Sharpiegate, right? You have to know about Sharpiegate. Oh man, if you haven't, you need to catch up fast. President Trump's latest natural disaster-related gaffe has led to some glorious Twitter memes.

The president showed this map of Hurricane Dorian's path.

It appears pretty unremarkable at first. But look closer. Look to the Florida Panhandle and into Alabama. As you can see, there's a bulbous black line that's been added on to the map.

Trump fudged the forecast.

Twitter | @NBCNews

Trump earlier asserted that Hurricane Dorian would strike Alabama. This wasn't true, but rather than correcting himself, the president doubled down. It's hard to know for sure, but it certainly looks like he used a black Sharpie to make the official forecast work with his erroneous prediction.

Twitter's having some fun with it.

Twitter | @MrTommyCampbell

When the man occupying the highest office in the land shows how easy it is to use black lines to alter reality, people are bound to notice. On Twitter, #Sharpiegate, along with other related hashtags, quickly started trending.

It's a walk down memory lane.

Twitter | @TheDailyShow

The memes are a gentle reminder of what's been a surreal first term of Trump's presidency. From the very recent past, who could forget Trump's suggestion that the United States just up and buy Greenland?

Get it?

Twitter | @aohillbilly

Memes ranged from the topical to the absurd. In the latter category, we get stuff like this. Get it? Trump used a Sharpie. There's a dog breed called Shar Pei. Har har har.

Never forget 1776.

A thorough recounting of Trump's bizarre statements wouldn't be complete without including Trump's bizarre assertion that airports somehow played a role in America gaining its independence from England in the 18th century.

Seems legit.

Twitter | @NoEmptySuits

This is honestly just a slight exaggeration of what Trump actually did. Sure, it looks like a child drew it. But then again, couldn't you say the same thing for the original image?

That's just science for you.

Twitter | @bhall001

Windmills are a great source of renewable energy, but a lot of people, including Trump, oppose them for vague reasons. Using images like this might help underscore their potential hazards.

Charts are fun.

Twitter | @wjsullivan

Charts can be accurate, they can be misleading, they can be informative and they can be confusing. But with the aid of a black Sharpie, charts can literally be anything you want.

Get this man a mortgage!

Twitter | @dankflyer

If you ever have to produce documentation to show a landlord you're a good tenant, don't stress. Just print up what you have, add a little Sharpie, and voila! Model tenant.

Remember Trump's good friend?

Twitter | @AceVent12892447

Trump once referred to Apple CEO Tim Cook as his "good friend." In the same breath, Trump also referred to Apple CEO Tim Cook as "Tim Apple." Tough to know how close they really are.

Best. Inauguration. Ever.

Twitter | @mark_novata

Trump's January 2017 inauguration attracted underwhelming crowds compared to previous inaugurations. At least, that's what I remember. But this pic shows an absolutely jam-packed crowd of onlookers, so maybe my memory was wrong.

Just move the hole.

Twitter | @PadraigPiarais

Golf is a simple, and often frustrating, game. When the simple act of getting the ball in the hole proves too complicated, why not take the simple step of just making the hole bigger?

Buff.

Twitter | @LeoKapakosNY

Trump, a man in his 70s who seems to exist on a diet of Big Macs and fried cheese, has boasted in the past about his physical health. This is probably how he sees himself.

Bigly.

Twitter | @Little__Trump

We all know that the president is a little bit self-conscious about the size of his hands. With a more convincing Photoshop, this image might be his favorite thing ever.

Understated.

Twitter | @capdlp01

This meme sticks close to the source material by taking Trump's original Sharpie swoosh, and nothing more, then adding it to a different image. If Trump had negotiated the Louisiana Purchase, who's to say he wouldn't do this?

Done, at a fraction of the cost.

Twitter | @joncoopertweets

Trump's long-promised border wall promises to be a multi-billion dollar boondoggle if it ever gets completed, which seems doubtful. Someone needs to show him this image and just tell him it's done already.

Winner, winner.

Twitter | @striderno9

Because of the specifics of the Electoral College, presidential elections are a complicated affair. It's easy to forget that Hillary Clinton actually got more votes than Trump. This Sharpie job should make him feel a little better.

There it is!

Twitter | @charley_ck14

Trump has been roundly criticized for his "bone spurs" excuse for missing Vietnam. But what if he was telling the truth all along? This convincing-looking x-ray seems to tell a story.

The truth comes out.

Twitter | @Rschooley

Trump actually is taller than Obama in real life, but I still like this Photoshop because it seems like the kind of petty, unconvincing move he would actually try to pull.

Are you following along?

Twitter | @amarakhbaranth1

The disparity in their Twitter followers is a bit more pronounced than the difference in their heights. Honestly, I'd be a little surprised if Trump himself wouldn't add a larger number than a 1 at the front.

As promised.

Twitter | @JWButta

Remember back when Trump promised Mexico would pay for a border wall? Well, if the Sharpie can help complete it, why not take care of the financing, too?

Victory is all but assured.

Twitter | @melindafla

I'm sure these numbers would be closer to accurate if the polling was done within Trump's own family at least.

A monumental addition.

Twitter | @ten24get

Only four out of 45 presidents grace South Dakota's Mount Rushmore, but you just know Trump is eyeing up a spot next to Lincoln.

Into each life some rain must fall.

Twitter | @EllenHopkinsLit

Some will say that the getting into the presidential marriage is offside, but others think it's fair game. But hey, it's still a better love story than Twilight.
