Meth Addict Pretends To Be A Police Officer To Stage Violent Drug Raid

While some people might dress as a cop for Halloween, doing so for any reason besides trick-or-treating or going to a party constitutes a very serious crime.

That badge and uniform can grant officers access to resources and property they otherwise wouldn't be allowed anywhere near. With this in mind, it's no surprise that some enterprising thieves would bluff their way to these advantages and clear out before anyone's the wiser.

However, one particularly disturbing case from Australia highlights the danger that impersonating a police officer can pose to public safety.

Back in July, 36-year-old Daniel Thomas of Lilydale, Australia seemed to have a plan worked out.

As The Age reported, he and a friend would dress as police officers and pretend to raid a house he knew to hold drugs.

And indeed, everything seemed to go according to plan for him at first.

The house's door was unlocked, so Thomas and his associate stormed the house and yelled, "This is a police raid. Get on the floor face down. Where are your drugs?"

As The Age reported, the ruse worked and the occupants handed over their stash of crystal meth and marijuana.

However, Thomas was apparently convinced that this wasn't all the drugs they had and demanded more.

It's worth noting that by this point, Thomas made a daily regimen of injecting two grams of meth and often mixed this with heroin, GBH, and cannabis. He had also stopped taking his antidepressants.

In any case, he was so convinced that his victims were holding out on him that he beat one of them to unconsciousness with a hammer.

Both of the house's occupants would be knocked out this way, and Thomas told one of them, "We killed your mate. Now tell us where the drugs are" after he awoke.

By this point, it had become obvious to this man that Thomas and his accomplice were not police officers.

Regardless, Thomas hit the other man in the head again and checked his buttocks for drugs.

Eventually, the actual police arrived and Thomas lunged at one of the responding officers with a knife.

He was tased and pepper sprayed, but the officers initially thought Thomas' victims were dead and started taking photos of their bodies.

However, it became clear that Thomas hadn't managed to kill them when one of them moved. The two are expected to experience complications from the attack for the rest of their lives.

As for Thomas, he plead guilty to various charges including aggravated burglary and is now serving an 11-year prison sentence.

He will need to serve nine of these years before he is eligible for parole. He has since stopped taking drugs and has applied to work with prisoners he described as "not all there."
