Johnny Depp's New Dior Ad Pulled After Accusations Of Cultural Appropriation

French fashion house Dior has come under fire recently after launching their new promotional video for their "Savauge" cologne, staring Johnny Depp.

Depp has been the face of multiple Dior ad campaigns in the past. However, none of them have received this level of criticism.

The new "Sauvage" ad features an enrolled Mdewakanton Dakota man in traditional Native American regalia dancing against a desert background as Depp speaks in the background.

However, hours after it's initial release, Dior removed the ad from their social media accounts.

Some of the backlash came with the word “Sauvage” — a French word meaning “wild” and a historically racial slur used towards the Native American community.

One Twitter user wrote, "So all the proceeds are going to Native American tribes?"

Another wrote, "Being racist in French does not make it classier."

However, many supported Dior's efforts to place traditional Native American imagery front and centre.

Dior has yet to comment on the backlash.
