We've all been there.
The first day of school was always filled with such unwarranted optimism, wasn't it? We dressed in our finest "back to school" outfits, made sure our hair was done nice, and that our shoes were spotless. We had enough pencils in our backpacks to last us a lifetime and thought we were ready to tackle the school year.
Of course, everything changed once we actually experienced life inside a classroom again. Then we got home and realized we had another 179 days of that same utter nonsense ahead of us. And suddenly we weren't quite so smiley.
According to the New York Post, 5-year-old Lucie Falconer from Glasgow, Scotland, was pictured on the morning of her very first day of primary school, dressed to the nines in a sweet skirt, cardigan, knee-high socks, and an adorable bow in her hair that matched her tie.
Standing beside her brother, she was snapped with a wide smile on her face as she prepared for her new life as a student.
Her mom, Jillian, snapped a second picture of her daughter after a long day in the classroom, her tie and socks askew, her hair a mess, and that optimistic smile completely gone from her face.
"I asked her what she had been doing at school and she said, 'Oh nothing, I just played with my friends,'" Jillian told _Barrhead News. "Her dad had messaged me from work, asking how her first day went, and I said to him 'You won't believe the state she's in.'"
In no time at all, the hilarious before-and-after shots went viral, racking up more than 13,000 reactions and nearly 7,000 shares.
"We can't believe it has gone viral," Jillian said.
Many shared that this is also how their own kids look after one day back at school. One person shared the above photos of their own son which perfectly documents his attitude towards the whole "school" thing after just one day of learning.
"That's what I look like when I get home from school," one user wrote. "And I'm the teacher!"
At some point or another, I think we've all been Lucie. Either on a physical or emotional level. Or maybe even both, to be honest.
"Instagram photos at pre drinks vs. in the taxi home," one user wrote, likening the photo set to a good night out on the town.
Another chimed in with, "Me at pre drinks vs. me stumbling home with cold McDonald's at 5 a.m."
This could just become the most relatable meme of summer '19. Thanks, Lucie!
