Woman Discovers Her Airbnb Is Inside A Restaurant: 'How Is This Legal?'

It's not exactly uncommon when travelling to find out that your accommodations aren't exactly the way they looked online. Maybe your hotel room isn't as freshly renovated as the website claimed. Maybe the "nice neighborhood" your AirBNB promised you isn't exactly as clean and friendly as you thought. These kinds of things happen to a lot of us, but I would bet you've never discovered that the room you'll be staying in for the night is actually inside a restaurant.

That's exactly what happened to one woman who documented the experience on TikTok.

Sometimes booking an AirBNB can feel like a pretty big risk.

After all, you don't really know exactly what you're getting, or how closely it'll match the pictures online. As someone who tends to over-worry about these kinds of things while travelling, I thought I'd imagined all the worst-case scenarios possible when it comes to booking a room.

I never imagined that a room that looked fine in the listing would end up being inside a building, which is exactly what happened in a video that has gone viral.

TikTok user @desireerosebaker shared a video showcasing the unlikely location of her AirBNB she rented in New York City.

"These are the pictures from online," she says in the video showing the pictures from the listing on a green screen behind her. "Two beds, nice view, whatever," she adds, highlighting the view of the city from the window.

However, when she shows the actual view from the window, it was not what was advertised.

When she pulls back the curtain on the window, she is greeted by the inside of a restaurant.

"There's no buildings, we're in a restaurant," she reveals. You can clearly see a couple at a table eating their dinner, seemingly unaware that their window is connected to a bedroom.

"How is this LEGAL?" She wrote in the caption of her video. One commenter wrote, "They don't know it's one-way glass?!" about the people in the restaurant.

You can watch the unbelievable video for yourself here.

In a follow-up video, the TikTok user walks into the restaurant to double-check that the diners can't see into the room, but that's only a small comfort.

I've never had to worry about whether someone is watching me eat at a restaurant from their bed before, but the thought is definitely going to cross my mind from here on out.
