Michigan Police Called Out On Rescue Mission To Untangle Seven Baby Squirrels

Police officers in Michigan were recently surprised to find themselves being called out to help out with the local animal population instead of the human population for a change.

When a group of baby squirrels became entangled with one another, they were in desperate need of help otherwise they may have been in real danger.

A day of rescuing squirrels was a far from normal day for the Michigan police force.

Grand Blanc Township Police Department took to their Facebook page to share the bizarre story.

"SQUIRREL!!! Takes on a whole new meaning for officers," they started by writing.

When the officers arrived at the scene they had been called out to, they saw the baby squirrels (picture below) struggling.

"911 received a call of 7 squirrels, who were tied together by their tails. Sure enough a scurry of young squirrels were found at the base of a tree, in the 2100 block of Russell St," the police department went on to write.

"It appears they became entangled while in their nest and finally grew to a point [where] the nest couldn't hold them."

Fortunately, along with the help of a civilian, the officers were able to safely untangle the seven squirrels.

According to the officer's post, the squirrel's mother had watched on closely from nearby to ensure that her babies came to no harm at the officer's hands.

"Their tails will need a little time to fill back in, but they are safe. Great team effort! #squirrelpower #crazybuttrue," the department ended their post by writing.

Baby squirrels becoming entangled with one another is more common than you may think.

Back in 2018, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Wisconsin Humane Society was able to rescue five baby squirrels (picture above) who had become entangled with one another.

The five siblings were placed under anaesthesia while a professional safely untangled them.

Squirrels who have their tails badly tangled up can suffer from circulation issues.

However, fortunately the Wisconsin Humane Society was able to get all of the squirrels back to good health.

If you happen to find a nest of squirrels whose tails have become entangled then reach out to local wildlife experts immediately.
