Woman Kicks Out Boyfriend After Discovering How Much He Hates Her Cat

Since I've always been allergic to them, it's never possible for me to get too comfortable around cats.

But even before terms like "fur baby" became commonplace, it was clear to me that there wasn't much in the world that the cat owners I've known love more than their mischievous little scamps.

And considering how much comfort pets can bring people when they're going through a hard time, it's no surprise that they'd mean so much to so many. Furthermore, they can be so charming that even those who swear up and down that they don't like them can sometimes be won over.

But of course, that's not how it always works. Although one woman wouldn't have imagined this until quite recently, it's sometimes true that a beloved pet can end up driving a wedge between a couple.

When the woman we're about to hear from first got her cat Millie, she was still a kitten.

But while their time together has made Millie infinitely precious to her, the woman explained in a Reddit post that the same wasn't true for her boyfriend.

At first, he showed this in a joking way, which seemed to indicate to the woman that he simply preferred dogs.

But when they became serious about moving in together, he admitted that he genuinely didn't like the idea of living with a cat.

So when he asked if the woman would consider giving Millie away, she laughed at first. But once she realized he was serious, she told him that under no circumstances would that be happening.

In her words, "I felt guilty about being unwilling to compromise, but he actually took it well, and reassured me that if she was this important to me, he’d get over it."

Yet he after he got home one night, the boyfriend accidentally made it clear that he wasn't so capable of getting over it.

While the woman stood in the kitchen, he went into a room where she knew Millie was and she heard him sigh and say, "You're so [expletive] worthless."

As she put it, "It terrified me, because I’ve never ever heard him speak with such malice. He sounded like a different person. It was just so cold and hostile that I panicked."

By that, she meant that she scooped Millie up and told him to get out of her apartment.

After both parties had calmed down, he was allowed back into the apartment, at which point he explained himself.

He said that he was trying to be playfully mean like when the woman calls Millie little names and just misjudged his tone.

Although the woman initially felt awful for kicking him out and felt worse when he said it felt like the cat mattered more than he did, there was something that gave him away.

When he said he felt second best to Millie, he mentioned that the woman "wouldn't even consider re-homing" the cat, which made her suspicious that he really meant what he said.

The Reddit community she reached out to agreed, saying that he truly resented this cat and only backpedaled once he realized he said the quiet part loud.

For this reason, many were unsure that Millie would be safe with him around. Taking that under advisement, she made a follow-up post stating that she had broken up with him and that he had moved out.

As she wrote, "Millie doesn’t deserve to just be tolerated, she deserves to be safe and treated like the little princess she is by anybody I live with. She’s seen me through so much, and I’d rather be alone than her wandering around the side of the road somewhere."
