We Finally Have A Proper First Look At The 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel

I think it's safe to say that Game of Thrones was an undeniable hit and it isn't a surprise that HBO would want to capitalize on that fandom with a few spin-offs.

For a while there, it seemed like every big name in Hollywood was attached to one of the many in development, but when the show's finale landed as roughly as Bran being pushed from a tower (too soon?), we were left to wonder if any of those projects would still happen.

At least one is guaranteed to hit our screens next year: *House of the Dragon*, and the first proper teaser just dropped.

This show is HBO's bid to take back the fantasy throne the way Bran managed to survive his fall and become king.

(Yes, that analogy is a stretch, but so was the show's reasoning for making him king in the first place.)

Anyway, *House of the Dragons* is set 200 years before the events of *Game of Thrones* and the original novels.

HBO

A while back, we got a tiny taste of the series when HBO released a few images of the main cast of characters: the Targaryen prince and princess (Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith), the Hightowers (Rhys Ifans and Olivia Cooke), who serve King Viserys I, and The Sea Snake (Steve Toussaint), who is arguably the most powerful man in Westeros.

Those images were cool and all, but we all know that it's the first teaser trailer that really matters.

There's only so much you can learn from pics. Yes, there will be many men with beards and swords. Yes, we will see even more very, very blond wigs on actors.

But what will the show be like???

It had better knock my socks off if it's going to defeat my lingering post-finale skepticism.

Ok, fine... it looks pretty damn cool.

Check it out for yourself. Is it enough to get you excited? Will it test your new-found loyalty to the other high fantasy show with chiselled men in remarkably pale wigs, The Witcher?

Unfortunately, the teaser still doesn't give an official release date beyond it being sometime in 2022.
