Tony Bennett's Wife Susan Benedetto Says Singer 'Doesn't Know' He Has Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's is one of the most heartbreaking diseases to watch a loved one suffer from. The inability to remember your family, friends, and every day habits can be devastating. Of course, Alzheimer's affects everyone differently, and the severeness can vary from person to person.

Now, Tony Bennett's wife Susan Benedetto is opening up about her husband's condition like never before.

As fans may recall, Tony Bennett's family revealed the singer's condition back in February.

During an interview with AARP The Magazine, the musician's family said that he was officially diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease in 2016.

His wife, Susan Benedetto, explained that they made the difficult decision to go public about the diagnosis without Tony's input, as he is "incapable of understanding the disease," AARP reported at the time.

Now, Susan is opening up further about her husband's condition.

During Sunday's episode of 60 Minutes, news anchor Anderson Cooper sat down with Tony and Susan following the singer's final stage appearance back in August at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"He recognizes me, thank goodness, his children, you know we are blessed in a lot of ways," Susan told the journalist, as per "People."

"He's very sweet." She went on to reveal the singer "doesn't know he has it," in reference to his Alzheimer's.

During the broadcast, the 95-year-old performed a song with his pianist with ease, recalling each word and note without lyrics in front of it.

Anderson was taken aback by the intimate performance, saying: "Well that was really one of the great honors I've ever had."

"Tony likes to say he's in the business of making people feel good, and he still is," Susan replied, to which Tony confirmed, "That's it!"

It's wonderful to see Tony surrounded by so much love and family during these uncertain times.
