Bride Offers $1,000 For Man Who Can Keep 'Narcissist' Mother-In-Law Busy

When a couple is looking to get married, they can often find themselves facing some heightened expectations from their families as to how the ceremony will go down.

While this can sometimes involve some unusual family traditions, it usually boils down to everyone expecting to get an invitation.

Of course, following these expectations can get expensive very fast so it's often a good opportunity for the couple to remember that they have the final say over how the wedding goes. At the same time, they may find that it's more trouble than it's worth to cut an annoying relative out of the mix, especially if that person happens to be either the bride or groom's parent.

But while that scenario seems to all but guarantee that a wedding will become more exhausting than it already was, one bride thought of an inventive solution to keep her future mother-in-law off her back.

While one person in Hudson Valley, New York was browsing their local Craigslist ads, they came across a unique and eye-catching offer.

As the listing said, the bride was looking for a wedding date for her mother-in-law, who she described as needing "constant attention and supervision."

The idea was for this person to act as a wedding guest who happens to take a shine to this woman. The bride also warned that, "She will probably wear white and try to escalate small dramas."

Should this happen over the two days that this "date" is expected to work, it will be their job to de-escalate any drama she tries to stir up and distract her from thinking up further attempts.

For these services, the bride is willing to offer this person $1,000 and provide food, accommodation and travel expenses.

To make the applicant's job easier, she will also provide any relevant background information and some conversation topics.

She also stated her intent to run a background check on anyone interested in this offer. After all, she wants the woman out of her hair for two days, not forever.

Although this seems like a tempting offer for even a frustrating couple of days, the bride isn't quite at the stage where anyone with a pulse can apply.

However, anyone who considers themselves a decent conversationalist, a good dancer, and capable of de-escalating tense situations and giving the woman their undivided attention could be a good candidate for the job.

And if they're between the ages of 40 and 60, that's even better as the mother-in-law in question is 51.

Other than these interpersonal skills, all they'll need for the job is their own suit and to submit a photo and short bio detailing their interests and qualifications.

And while the Reddit community this was posted in would normally avoid this kind of person like the plague, they had to admit it was a pretty generous offer.

One user said, "1000 + open bar? I'll jump on that grenade" while another said, "The pay is more than okay and he's honest. Hell, I'd take the job. 10/10 advertising."

Indeed, one user who happened to be in the area actually did apply. However, since they didn't hear back for several days after doing so, they were led to assume the position had already been filled.

I guess we can't be surprised.
