Tipping workers has become commonplace in many industries across the country. Whether it be to make up pay , or to simply say thank you for a job well done, it’s considered polite and the right thing to do.
Some employees come to take tipping very seriously, even deciding to worsen their performance if they aren’t tipped, as seen with one recently viral TikTok.
The culture surrounding tipping has always been under fire from one party or another.

Debates like what services should ask for tips, when in the exchange should a tip be given, how much should a tip be, and if we should even tip at all have circled around for as long as tips have been a concept.
Those who can earn tips, though, can sometimes still be a little put off when they don’t receive one.
One Dunkin’ Donuts worker decided to illustrate exactly how he retaliates against those who don’t tip.

Jason on the right here, or @jasonmora2 on TikTok, uploaded a video that now has over 1 million views showing how he makes drinks for those who don’t tip versus those who do. He’s faced a lot of scrutiny since, but let’s look at the actual differences.
First up, those who don’t tip.

The text-to-speech voice reads out the caption on screen, “How I b making drinks when they don’t tip.”
He puts the components into the cup as normal, then sticks the lid on and swirls the drink a few times to mix it.
Then, for those who do tip.

This time, the caption reads, “Versus when they do tip.”
He goes through the same motions, adding each component, but instead of only swirling the drink at the end, he grabs a spoon and mixes it vigorously. The text-to-speech voice returns to say, “Making sure no sugar is left behind.”
He did put a disclaimer in the comments.

“Mind you it’s jus me and another worker. I definitely put in a lil more effort in those who tip but regardless u still getting what u paid for.”
Despite this, the comments were not happy with him at all, thinking this sort of behavior ridiculous.
They believed that not only was he just not doing his job correctly, but the tip exchange isn’t even worth it.

“It’s sad people think you gotta tip for them to do something [they’re] getting paid to do,” said one.
“So you only do your job right if they tip you?” asked another.
Speaking to the act in video directly, one person asked, “[So I’m] tipping for you to stir my drink?”
Many were surprised to hear that Dunkin’ Donuts took tips at all.
Either it came as news to them, or they thought it was silly as Dunkin’ Donuts employees are paid hourly, unlike servers and delivery drivers who rely on tips to make up their wage.
Jason hopefully learned a lesson about sharing his work practices online, as all he contributed was more fuel to the tipping discourse fire.
