Danny Trejo's Son Honors His Dad's 53rd Sobriety Anniversary: 'You're My Hero'

There's no denying that being a celebrity would be incredibly exhausting. Sure, there are huge perks and global notoriety, but at the end of the day, they're just people. People who experience ups and downs. People who struggle with things the average person struggles with. Whenever a celebrity is open and honest about a battle with addiction, it helps us all feel closer to that star, and that couldn't be more true with actor Danny Trejo, who recently celebrated his sobriety anniversary.

Danny Trejo is a man who needs no introduction.

The actor, whose impressive lineup of films include Heat, Con Air, Bubble Boy, and Desperado has been a fixture on our screens since the '80s.

As far as his television work goes, you may recall seeing him in little ol' shows like Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say Danny is a man of many talents on-screen, but many may not know the work he does off-screen, as well.

The 77-year-old has been a substance misuse counselor and advocate for many years now, after a battle with substance abuse in his twenties.

Now, his son Gilbert Trejo is honoring his father on the 53rd anniversary of his sobriety.

"@officialdannytrejo has 53 years sober today!! Thank you so much dad for turning your life around!!" he began.

"Not only we’re you able to grow and become the man I know as my father, but you were able to help and inspire so many people."

"It blows my mind that at 24 years old, in a jail cell, you were able to change the course of so many lives with one decision. You are my hero!"

He concluded: "(Yes he chills with his shirt off for most of the day. Some habits do die hard)."

What an amazing acomplishment! Way to go, Danny!
