Puppy Looks Like A Brand New Dog After Rescue From Shoe It Was Living In

It's always heartening to see someone make a positive change away from a self-destructive lifestyle, but it's just as affirming when someone who had no control whatsoever over their situation finds a way out of it.

And that's why it means so much to us when we see animals get rescued. And doubly so if the person caring for them shows the love and patience it takes to undo their previous owner's bizarre decisions that led them into a dangerous predicament.

But it's also true that we never know where we'll be when one of those situations arises. Because as one story illustrates, animals in need can end up in the strangest places before they're rescued.

On March 7, 2020 a volunteer animal rescuer named Goran Marinkovic came across a sickly puppy surrounded by trash.

As he told Bored Panda, he had come to feed stray dogs that he already knew existed in the area.

And as he tells it, the animals he feeds are an increasingly common sight.

In his words, "I feed abandoned animals on the street that are not getting food from humans and have no owners. Their numbers are constantly rising."

But this puppy's situation struck Marinkovic not just because of its condition, but also due to how it had been surviving before he arrived.

He found the puppy sleeping next to a shoe that served as its only shelter from the elements when the weather worsens.

So while he had intended to feed multiple dogs that day, he knew he had to bring this one home.

But before any of that coupld happen, the little pup that Marinkovic would name Smesten needed to be fed and taken to a vet.

And according to him, it was far from the first time he's opened his home to an abandoned animal.

As he put it, "I save animals that are endangered, that live on the street. I take care of animals because I love them, I love animals equally everything, cats, dogs, others."

And while Smesten had already shown a marked improvement the day Marinkovic brought him home, he would look like an entirely different dog in the months that followed.

By November of that year, he would not only look so much healthier, but also far happier than he did when his rescue was still fresh in his mind.

It's truly amazing how much one person's kindness and love can make a lifesaving difference.
