Woman Calls Out Boutique After Accidental Email Calls Her 'Not That Cute'

When we get comfortable enough at a job, we can often find that it's pretty fun to find clever ways to make fun of all the things about that job that annoy us.

And the worse the job is, the easier it is to get into the rhythm of doing this whether our targets are micromanagers or entitled customers. However, it's also easy to underestimate how quickly one can start directing their ire at people who don't really deserve it when they get comfortable enough doing this.

Add that to the fact that we can sometimes find our conversations aren't always as private as we think they are and we have a recipe for an embarrassing situation that the owners of one boutique firmly planted both feet into.

In a TikTok video, a young woman who goes by Gracie explained that she applied for a job at a boutique known as Ava Lane.

She went on to state that their motto was "beauty through confidence," which made the email that she accidentally received from the company's vice president particularly surprising to read.

As you can see in the full video, this person — who is also the owner's husband — was hesitant to offer her an interview.

While part of the reason he felt Gracie might not be a fit for a sales model position was the fact that she applied soon after graduating college, he also revealed that another consideration was his feeling that she's "not that cute."

This clearly hurt Gracie's feelings and she ended up receiving an outpouring of support from viewers that surprised her.

Once the reactions came in, she said, "This has gotten a lot more attention than I had ever imagined. Thank you so much for the support but please leave his family out of this."

After significant backlash got back to the boutique, owners Laura and Chuck DeGrendel broadcast a lengthy apology over Facebook Live.

Both appeared to be in tears and Chuck began by saying that this mishap occurred on a day when their HR representative was away.

In his apology, Chuck did not make any excuses, however.

In his words, "I didn’t feel she was that cute. So I didn’t know if I wanted to proceed with an interview. I don’t know why I said that, but I did, and I am very sorry for saying that."

The full apology has since been recorded and uploaded to YouTube by a viewer and you can see it here.

However, it's worth noting that at one point, Laura said, "I’m pretty sure the girl who Chuck has apologized to didn’t mean to, when she asked her followers to contact us, to threaten our family, the families who work here. I’m pretty sure that was not her intention, but that’s what happened."

Indeed, it seems that Gracie's overzealous followers may have taken matters into their own hands.

Laura's statement has been the subject of objections from viewers as at no point during her TikTok nor in any subsequent clips or comments on the matter did Gracie ever suggest that her followers should contact the boutique's owners.

And as stated above, she cautioned her followers against the exact behavior Laura reported in the wake of the TikTok's release.

Gracie added that she hadn't sought any kind of retribution against Chuck or Laura over the email.

Rather, she told Bored Panda that her intent in posting on TikTok about the incident "was simply to call out bad behavior and to encourage individuals to stand up for themselves."

"I don’t want to prolong the narrative. […] I want to spin this situation into a positive one," she added.
