52-Year-Old Gillian Anderson Is Done Wearing Bras: 'I Don't Care If My Breasts Reach My Belly Button'

There are few things I support more than women not giving an eff what anyone thinks. In your twenties, you're so prone to caring about what other people think of you, how your friends and family will think of you. However, one of the biggest freedoms that come with age means not caring what society says is "normal" or socially acceptable.

Bras have long since been a symbol of contention for women.

The first-ever "bras" as we know them today came around in the 20th century, however, women have been binding and supporting their breasts since Ancient Greece.

These days, it's becoming more and more common for women to "free the nipple" on a daily basis.

Of course, it started out as a trend but now, it's becoming more of a lifestyle. A movement if you will.

The latest celebrity to announce they're going braless forever is esteemed actress Gillian Anderson.

I know, right? The 6 time Emmy winner may be onto something...

Gillian's career dates back to '90s.

Known best for her role on the popular TV show The X-Files and now, Netflix's The Crown, Gillian is no stranger to hard work.

And you know what hard-working are tired of? Wearing bras!

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many women got used to not wearing uncomfortable breast shackles every day.

Now that lockdowns have lifted in Britain, the actress is determined to keep this one piece of pandemic life with her.

In a new video posted to her Instagram account, the 52-year-old revealed she was done with wearing bras.

To be honest, who can blame her?

"I don’t wear a bra anymore. I can’t wear a bra. I’m sorry," she revealed during an Instagram live session, as per *Page Six.*

"I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button. I’m not wearing a bra, it’s just too [explective] uncomfortable," she added.

Of course, social media had an absolute field day with the remark.

More and more young people are saying no to intrusive clothing items that don't make them feel good anymore!

Gillian is surely an influential figure, and as said best by @riomatt00 on Twitter, who are we to disagree with her?

She plays Margaret bloody Thatcher for goodness sake!

Writer and social campaigner Nicky Clark praised the 52-year-old in an opinion column for *The Independent*.

"I applaud Gillian Anderson's attitude to sagging breasts -- it highlights our love-hate relationship with an item of clothing that is supposedly good for us, without necessarily being good to us," Nicky wrote.

This is truly a movement I can get behind, and I think it's awesome that Gillian is being so open and honest about it.
