Woman Kicks SIL Out After She Announces Pregnancy At Her Engagement Party

Engagement parties are a special time for a couple — especially amidst a pandemic! Most couples have had to work around countless restrictions, leading to cancellations and delayed celebrations.

Now, a woman on Reddit is asking if she's in the wrong for kicking out her SIL for announcing her pregnancy at her engagement party. I know, right? THAT REALLY HAPPENED!

There are two types of people out there — those that think proposals/ baby announcements at other people events are tacky, and everyone else.

I don't consider myself a selfish person, but if someone proposed to their girlfriend at my wedding, I would literally lose my mind.

Sure, there are some people who are okay with others stealing the spotlight, but I think it's safe to say most of us would *not* be okay with it.

At the very least, please make sure the pair know of your plans — surprise announcements are super inconsiderate!

Now, a woman has taken to the infamous AITA Reddit page to ask if she was wrong for kicking her future SIL out of her engagement dinner.

"My engagement dinner was on Tuesday, my fiance (M27) and I (F25) did our best to afford the party at a decent restaurant. His and my family came as well as our friends," she explained.

Things were going well until the pair received their gift from the groom-to-be's brother and his wife.

"I opened it to find a pair of baby shoes inside," she explained.

"My fiance put his drink down and asked 'what?,,,,you're,,,,how???' then turned to my MIL and shouted MOM!!! MIL got up asking if I was pregnant...what? No!![sic]"

After the mass confusion, their SIL congratulated the pair for becoming aunt and uncle!

"She announced that she and her husband were expecting. I was in shock as everyone got up from their seats and started congratulating her and her husband for their pregnancy."

"My fiancé got up to congratulate his sister and her husband. The guests kept talking to them," she wrote.

"I pulled my SIL aside and asked why she decided to announce her pregnancy at my engagement party specifically. She said she and her husband saw this as a chance since most of the family was there and it's a double joy."

Um, absolutely not!

"I explained that I've been looking forward to my engagement dinner for a long time and spent time and money to make it happen."

"I flat-out called her behavior out and told her her announcement was at the wrong place, the wrong time."

Apparently, the two women's relationship hasn't been the best, so the announcement was a huge sting to the bride-to-be.

"She got all pissed and accused me of already resenting her baby because it's the first grandchild and that she doesn't want to play my 'mental games' and called me petty to see things from this perspective," she wrote.

The situation escalated after the SIL raised her voice, causing the bride-to-be to ask her to leave.

She explained that her fiancé's brother and wife proceeded to ask everyone to leave with them and continue their celebration elsewhere.

"We had no choice but to end the party soon since most of my fiance's family wanted to go after giving me nasty looks for my early on confrontation with my SIL."

What a horrible situation!

"I felt awful because my family was left alone and my fiance was the only one who stayed. My fiance said had I not started arguing with his sister none of them would've wanted to leave. Basically saying I ruined my own engagement dinner."

While there's no denying something like this *could* have gone over well if the bride-to-be knew ahead of time, this is not something you just announce at someone else's big day.

I think it's totally rude! What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
