Celebrities Who Gave Birth After They Turned 45

More and more women are choosing to have kids later on in life — including celebs.

This includes everyone from Janet Jackson to Halle Berry to Rachel Weisz. They found their mid-to-late forties to be their pregnancy sweet spot.

So whether it was through in vitro fertilization (IVF) or just pure luck, here are 10+ celebs who gave birth after they turned 45.

1. Alanis Morissette

The singer was newly 45 when she welcomed her third child with her husband, Mario "Souleye" Treadway.

In an interview with Self, she revealed that this came about thanks to a "combination of luck and resources."

2. Rachel Weisz

The British actress was 48 when she announced that she and Daniel Craig were expecting their first child together.

Their baby girl, born in September 2018, joined Weisz's teenage son and Craig's daughter.

3. Halle Berry

The actress had both of her children late in life.

She had her first, Nahla, at 41 and then gave birth to her son, Maceo, at 47. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, she shared how her pregnancy was a "geriatric pregnancy."

She also shared how much of a shock it was to give birth in her 40s.

"I was, you know, on my way…this is probably way TMI, but I was really, you know, kinda premenopausal so to have this happen was a huge [shock]," she explained.

4. Iman

The supermodel gave birth to her second child, Alexandria, with her late husband, David Bowie.

Since they had her without IVF, Iman described their child as a "miracle" during a 2009 interview with Parade.

5. Susan Sarandon

While she had her daughter in 1985, the Oscar-winning actress gave birth to her two sons at 42 and 45.

In an interview with Time Out New York, she shared why she had more children later in life.

"I wasn’t in a hurry, but I actually had a medical condition and was told I could never be a mother," she said.

She also shared how she dealt with endometriosis during her pregnancies. "It was just such a freak [thing] that I got pregnant that I thought I can’t ignore this. And so I jumped."

6. Chloë Sevigny

The American Horror Story gave birth to her first child with her boyfriend, Siniša Mačković, at 45.

She gave birth to a son, despite vocalizing her wish to have a little girl in an interview with Who What Wear.

7. Geena Davis

The actress had all three of her children past 45.

She had her daughter, Alizeh, when she was 46 and then her twin boys, Kian and Kaiis, two years later. She spoke to Good Housekeeping about giving birth in her 40s.

"I felt 100 percent that I would be such a better parent than I would have been even five years earlier and certainly 10 or 20 years earlier," she explained.

"I'm sure there are younger people who have figured things out long before I did, but in my case, I became a parent with exactly the right person, at exactly the right time."

8. Jane Kaczmarek

The Malcom in the Middle actress had all three of her kids in her 40s. She had them at 42, 44, and her third at 46. Since she was on the show at the time, her real-life pregnancy was hidden.

9. Laura Linney

The Ozark actress secretly welcomed her first child in 2014 when she was 49 years old.

Since she never spoke about her pregnancy publically, it's unclear whether she and her husband, Marc Schauer, used IVF or a surrogate.

She did, however, eventually share her reason for keeping her pregnancy under wraps.

"Well, I was an older mother-to-be, and it had taken me a very long time to have a child," she told Kelly Ripa.

"I wanted to make sure that my child actually arrived, and was safe and healthy."

10. Kenya Moore

The Real House Wives of Atlanta star had a strong desire to have kids in her 40s. To make this happen, she and her partner went the IVF route in order to have their daughter, Brooklyn.

11. Audra McDonald

"Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead 2 pregnancy?" the Broadway star tweeted when announcing her pregnancy at 46.

Their daughter joined her and her husband's three other children from previous relationships.

12. Tamron Hall

The former Today host gave birth to her son, Moses, when she was 48.

She announced the news while wearing a hat adorned with her son's name on it. "Photo credit: Dad who can't stop crying tears of joy. Thank y'all for the love and support. It got us here."

13. Brigitte Nielsen

The actress was 54 when she announced her fifth pregnancy with a baby bump selfie.

She was able to have a baby at her age thanks to IVF treatments. In 2018, she welcomed her daughter Frida.

14. Kelly Preston

The late actress was 48 when she and her husband John Travolta had their son, Benjamin.

At the time, she told Health that she was "floored" to discover she was pregnant. "I'd snuck out of bed and then came back and woke Johnny up in bed. We both started crying. It was wonderful."

15. Janet Jackson

The singer was 50 when she welcomed her son, Elissa, with her now-estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana.

“3 yrs ago today God blessed me, at the age of 50, with the greatest gift of all. My baby!” she wrote on her son's third birthday.
