Thousands Sign Petition Demanding That Jeff Bezos Buy And Eat The Mona Lisa

What do Jeff Bezos, currently the world's richest man, and the Mona Lisa have in common? Well, apart from the fact that they're both household names across the globe, nothing, really.

But that hasn't stopped people from wanting them to unite in a really unlikely, no, impossible way. People are calling for Bezos to buy and eat the Mona Lisa, LADbible reports.

It's probably a joke...

I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to see this happen, even if it were possible.

Still, there's a petition out there that people are signing by the thousands, and it calls for just that.

The petition is on Change.org.

It was actually started over a year ago, but in typical internet fashion, only became known recently. All of a sudden, thousands of people have decided that this very important petition needs to be signed. As of this afternoon, it has already amassed nearly five thousand signatures.

There's no rhyme or reason to the petition.

This is definitely one of those seemingly random internet things. And honestly, we love to see it.

The description on the petition's page reads: "Nobody has eaten the Mona Lisa and we feel Jeff Bezos needs to take a stand and make this happen." That's some pretty sound logic right there.

It would probably be impossible to buy it though.

Forget about eating the Mona Lisa, Bezos (or anyone for that matter) wouldn't even be able to buy it. The centuries-old Da Vinci painting is kind of a cultural icon, that hangs proudly in Paris' Louvre museum.

Oh, and it's also owned by the French government, and I doubt they'd be willing to part ways with it.

But how much would it cost?

Since the French government have no plans of ever selling what could be considered one of the most famous art pieces in the world, it doesn't have a price tag.

Stephane Distinguin, a French tech boss, proposed it could be sold for the equivalent of $60 billion dollars, but according to art experts, considering other Da Vinci works have sold for hundreds of millions rather than billions, that would be a bit too much.

At least Bezos could afford it.

When you think about it, Jeff Bezos is pretty much the only person who could do this.

With a net worth of nearly $200 billion , the Amazon founder could buy the Mona Lisa and still have enough money to last him hundreds of lifetimes. I think I'm starting to see the appeal of this petition.

This is actually hilarious to think about.

I can imagine that this is why so many people have decided to sign this petition. It's obviously not going to happen (...right?). But just the idea of one of the world's billionaires pointlessly buying a famous painting just to eat it is hilarious enough. I definitely needed a chuckle today, and this really did the job.

All thanks to one petition.

If you're interested in seeing the petition for yourself, you can find it here. I'm not going to tell you to sign it, but I'm not not sayin you should either.
