Pregnant Mom Was Abandoned By Her Partner After Rejecting His Name Suggestion

The last thing a mom-to-be needs is stress.

Yet, that's exactly what one pregnant woman received when her boyfriend abandoned her a week after she revealed she's expecting.

Now, he's come back into her life. But instead of being there to help raise the child, he's insisting that the baby takes his name.

Mamma mia.

Pregnancy is difficult enough without having to embark on it alone.

Sadly, that's the situation facing one expecting mother who took to the AITA Reddit community to share her drama-filled story.

She began by writing that the father of her child, Andy, walked out on her a week after she told him she was pregnant.

"We stayed in contact after that but Andy can't decide whether he wants to be involved or not so I decided to just start making plans on my own," she wrote.

This puts her in a tough position, as she's already working full-time and taking care of her sick grandmother on top of that.

As such, she doesn't have the time or mental energy to convince him that he should be in their baby's life.

He should just want to.

So she was surprised when Andy sent her a long email, talking about baby names and saying that he wants their child to have his grandfather's name.

She promptly shut him down, saying she already decided on names.

When he insisted that the father should have a say, she put him in his place once again.

She told him that he should decide whether he wants to be involved in their child's life before demanding a part in the name. Yass, sis!

She let him know that if he wanted to be involved "that meant custody, that meant responsibility, that meant helping to pay for our child's education and clothes."

She continued: "To invest time and money and effort, consideration and love and - to 'man up' and be a parent, pretty much."

He didn't react kindly to this. He called her up and said that she was being a bitch and that all he wanted was for his child to have his name.

"I just told him that my child would have my last name either way, period."

If he wanted that to change, he would have to legally agree to responsibility.

The insults continued: "He called me the c-word, hung up on me and has been ranting on instagram ever since."

"My friends are all on my side, even my family is but I can see the comments under his posts and some people are saying I'm being completely inconsiderate and already trying to alienate him from his kid," she wrote.

Reddit was also on her side with plenty of supportive comments.

"A child can't be alienated from a guy who is taking no actual responsibility or interest in that child beyond the shallow matter of his last name," one wrote. Another called him a "deadbeat loser."

Many advised the mom on taking him to court for child support.

"After baby is born drag his ass to court to get a custody agreement and child support legally on paper," one user commented.

"He doesn't get a CHOICE in whether or not he has financial responsibility. THE LAW requires him to pay child support," another added.

"Whether he wants visitation is up to him, OP may not actually want him involved in child's life."

She was also advised on keeping a record of his messages and Instagram posts. This will help her in court.

"Get a lawyer please and start saving everything you can. Screenshot of instagram, record conversations if legal where you live, and anything else you can."

Such good advice!

One Redditor pointed out the repercussions that could come from naming the child after the father.

"Imagine you name your kid after 'dad' only for dad to disappear. That's just stupid," they wrote.

That would certainly lead to awkwardness once the child is grown up.
