Dramatic Rescue Successful After Boaters Caught Teetering Over Dam's Edge

With summer fully underway, lots of people are eager to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

A group of boaters in Texas recently bit off more than they could chew in a frightening incident that saw their boat teetering precariously over the edge of a dam near Austin.

The photos and video show just how close they were to total disaster.

Have you ever been in a boating scrape?

Boating is a summer pastime, but it's something that shouldn't be taken lightly. Boating mishaps kill hundreds of Americans every year.

Inexperience, improper equipment, and a lack of awareness of the surroundings are all factors that can make things go south.

These boaters were rescued just in the nick of time.

In a series of dramatic tweets, emergency responders detailed just what happened: a boat became stranded on the very edge of Longhorn Dam.

Apparently the occupants weren't familiar with the area and didn't realize they were in a dangerous spot.

EMS crews dropped life jackets to the group.

Several responses to the original tweet asked just how a group of people could be so unprepared that they didn't even have life jackets.

It's a fair question, but what really matters here is that they were rescued without incident.

The boat was towed to safety.

All's well that ends well, and the occupants, as well as their boat, were spared a violent trip over the edge of the dam.

It's also a powerful reminder that first responders help keep us safe, even when we do dumb stuff.

It was a reckless stunt that could have ended in disaster.

Locals weren't happy about the fact that a group of inexperienced boaters nearly put themselves and EMS crews in danger.
