Family: can't live with them, can't live without them. And sometimes, they steal your underwear.
Okay, that last sentence isn't a common occurrence in families (we hope), but it did recently happen to one uncle who let his nephew stay with him.
The whole situation is weird, but what the nephew had to say for himself is even weirder...
He began by sharing that his wife's 18-year-old nephew was having trouble with his mom.
His dad's not in the picture and his mother is tough to live with. So to help remedy the situation, the man and his wife took the young fella in.
"Don’t know when exactly the situation started only that I began noticing over the last couple of months that my boxer briefs were going missing whenever it was time for me to do laundry," he wrote. At first, things were a little bit noticeable.
But he knew his boxers were legitimately being stolen when he had to buy more.
Meanwhile, his wife thought he just losing them by not paying attention.
"I was looking for some supplies we keep there in the closet and then I found a laundry bag in one of the drawers," the Redditor shared.
"All of my underwear were in there. A whole big pile were stuffed in there and I couldn’t believe it."
"We had a sit down with him, didn’t bring up what I found but asked him directly if he knew why my dirty underwear was disappearing from my hamper," he wrote.
"He tried playing dumb at first, he’s a horrible liar and then we told him what we found."
After adamantly denying it was him who stole the underwear, the nephew finally confessed.
Only thing is, he refused to say why. This just makes the situation that much weirder. The whole situation made the Redditor feel "grossly violated."
The Redditor's wife was supportive when he said he wasn't comfortable with her nephew staying with them anymore.
Their reactions weren't on the uncle's side. "They admit that’s kind of gross but it’s not like he was stealing money and we shouldn’t have thrown him out for only that reason."
The wife also feels caught in the middle since it's her family.
"NTA that’s a massive breach of privacy and signs of something very unhealthy happening," one wrote. "You definitely do NOT have to live with someone who does this to you, not for any reason."
"If it was your wife's underwear id imagine the whole family would be up in arms and yelling at him, possibly calling him a creep amongst other things," they wrote.
Some played devil's advocate by saying that the nephew was poor and needed underwear.
"This sounds like something a perverted person would do? Sounds like a panty thief except he steals briefs. I just hope he doesn't do anything rated r with them ... he needs to see a psychologist?" one user wrote.
