Newsflash: People Are Free To Paint Their Homes Whatever Colors They Want

If there's one thing people on the internet hate, it's you doing what you want with your own stuff.

Do you dare to paint brick? Are you into bright colors and shapes on your walls? Have you spray-painted a dresser in your day? If you have, odds are you've gotten comments from a lot of people bemoaning your choices. It's almost like they don't understand artistic freedom. And frankly, I'm so sick of it.

If I never see someone complaining about painting ANYTHING again, it'll be too soon.

Here's the thing: I don't care if you don't like painted brick, or painted furniture, or bright colors. I know that might be hard to hear, but it's true. If I buy a house with a brick fireplace, I'm painting it bright pink. Why? Because it's my fireplace, and I don't like the look of red brick. It's that simple.

However, people on the internet don't really care about what I want to do with my own stuff. It all boils down to everyone thinking they know better than I do, or you do. And it's dumb as heck, friends.

If I want to paint something in a bold color, I'm going to do it.

HAPPILY. Why? Because I'm so very tired of neutral colors! They're totally fine for some people, but I feel like the love of neutrals has always been focused on the resale value of a home, or the inability to paint walls in a rental.

As someone who's owned and rented, I find that ridiculous. It seems to silly to me to live in your home only thinking of the next people to occupy it.

Bright colors are just too fun to not have in your house.

A bright house is a happy house! I'm such a big believer in people turning their homes into their own sanctuaries. Your home should be about you, not a future dollar amount or tenant.

Do whatever you want to express yourself creatively. It's YOUR house, and life is short. Paint the damn walls. Paint the floors, if you own your home! Paint whatever you want if it makes you happy. All of it is yours.

And when you're done with a certain color, there's so many options available to you!

Sick of it? Paint over it. Selling your house? Bring the professionals in. Paint with the knowledge that yeah, it might take some heavy duty work to fix it one day.

If it's worth it to you, go for it. Paint your house in rainbows! Purple on the walls, green arches on the doors. Have fun with your home while you're in it. You only live once.

And the next time I find myself with a strong opinion on someone's house, I'm going to ask myself, "Does anyone care?" Odds are, they don't. And that's awesome.
