Ron Perlman Shows Off Impressive Figure After 7 Week Transformation

Given that most of Ron Perlman's famous roles saw him playing fearsome demons and other badasses, there's often a temptation to assume his own life had similar parallels.

But as he told NPR's Terry Gross, any confidence he now has was very hard-won as he spent many of his childhood and teenage years feeling self-conscious about his body and face.

This led to a situation in which he had to make some major physical changes to do what he wanted in life and at 72 years of age, it seems he's just as capable of putting in that work as ever.

While speaking to Gross, Perlman described himself as "the fat kid" when he was growing up.

As he said, "That was the reality. I mean, you know, I was, like - I was up around 300 pounds by the time I was 12 and a half, 13 years old. And it stayed that way for - till I took my college physical, which I failed."

This led him to take his diet seriously and otherwise "pay the piper" and it seems he's found another reason in more recent times to stay on that journey that started so many years ago.

On May 17, Perlman showed his Instagram followers some photos from his preparations for his new movie *The Baker*.

As he noted in his caption, these photos were originally posted by the The Academy Grand Cayman martial arts and strength training studio, where he is apparently a member.

As the studio explained, preparing for this role has seen the actor undergo a seven-week nutrition and training program.

And as a result of his disciplined approach, Perlman revealed that he has lost over 20 pounds during that period of time.

As the studio's post read, "During that time he has been disciplined, committed and focused on ensuring he eats clean, rests well and drinks lots of water...."

They also credited Nicholas Adendorff and the health product store GREEN2GO for providing the juices, smoothies, and espresso that factored into his regimen.

Surprisingly, this transformation apparently didn't come from much exercise but rather making generally good liferstyle choices.

As the studio wrote, "At 71 years of age he has made incredible progress and I’m super excited to see him take the next step on this health and fitness journey. Well done Big Ron, you’re an inspiration."
