Man Goes Viral After Discovering His New Bulldog Only Understands Spanish

While it takes most new dog owners time to bond with their furry friends, there are occasionally some additional unexpected obstacles that arise, preventing that connection from being made so easily.

For one man in particular, getting used to his new English bulldog was extra complicated, because little did he know that his new pupper is only familiar with Spanish.

This man and his dog didn't just have a species barrier, they had a language barrier too.

After getting his pup free of charge, the man from New Mexico wondered why his new pet wouldn't respond to any of his commands.

No matter how hard he tried to teach his bulldog anything, the dog just wouldn't comply.

He decided to test a theory.

It was just a hunch, but he decided to try giving his bulldog a command in Spanish, and it worked. The dog not only responded to the command, but he performed it successfully.

For the first time, this man and his bulldog were speaking the same language.

He took to TikTok to tell his story.

User @girthbrooks1994 shared a video of himself speaking Spanish to to his bulldog, Señor Snax, and the dog finally complying.

That clip has since gone viral, amassing over 5.4 million views and nearly 2 million likes with thousands of comments from amused viewers.

"English bulldog?" one person wrote. "No. Spanish bulldog."

Another added, "He's probably so happy to understand you in his language now."

Other people came to the sudden realization that perhaps their own dogs are in a similar boat to this pup.

In fact, some of those users have actually discovered that yes, they also have dogs who only understand Spanish.

User @h1lls.ash shared a video successfully commanding her parents' unresponsive foster dog to "sit" in Spanish, proving that this language barrier was exactly what was preventing the pup from listening to them all along.

Brooks has memorized some key Spanish commands.

The proud owner of a "Spanish bulldog" has mastered saying "sit down" ("sientate") and "give me your hand" ("dame la mano") in a language Señor Snax can finally understand.

Some super helpful TikTok users have even reached out in the comment section to teach Brooks more commands in Spanish so that he can continue to communicate with his beloved doggo.

Let us know what you think of this muy bien story in the comments and if you've ever experienced a language barrier with a dog before.
