It's one thing to write a big, fat check to charity. It's a whole other thing to actually spend your time volunteering.

Thankfully, there are many celebs in Hollywood who put their effort where their money is.

Whether they traveled overseas or gave back to their community, here are 10+ celebs who enjoy spending their free time volunteering.

1. Justin Bieber

The "Peaches" singer is a total softie at her. He once traveled to South America to build a school for a Guatemalan community with the charity, Pencils of Promise.

He called the experience a “wakeup call for me,” in a video diary.

2. Taylor Swift

The "Fearless" singer has a long history of giving back to her fans and helping those in need.

She's been a part of granting children's wishes in over 50 countries for years with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

In 2016, she visited sick patients at a local children's hospital in Australia.

According to the Straight Children's Foundation, she spent her time mingling with the children and took several selfies.

"They will never 'shake off' the memories you made tonight," the organization wrote on Facebook.

3. Angelina Jolie

She hasn't been named a Goodwill Ambassador for nothing.

The actress is famous for her charity work, having done field missions in over 20 countries. She has spent time with impoverished communities and refugees.

4. Emma Watson

The Harry Potter star brings so much magic to the charity world.

She earned her title as UN’s Women Goodwill Ambassador by visiting Bangladesh and Zambia as a way to promote education for girls.

5. Bono

The U2 singer is incredibly well-known for his philanthropist efforts over the decades.

He once took the US Treasury Secretary on a tour of Africa to demonstrate the poverty as a way to highlight the need for more donations.

This sweet celebrity has been volunteering for A21, an organization that helps victims of human trafficking, since 2018.

“I had been working for so long, and I don’t like taking things in my life. I just wanted to serve," she told Elle.

7. Prince William

The royal went above and beyond in his duties to support charity when he, along with Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, launched Shout 85258.

This is the United Kingdom's "first 24/7 crisis text line."

At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the Duke even revealed that he's been secretly volunteering for the crisis helpline.

This means that he was one of the 2,000 Crisis Volunteers who are trained to "support anyone, anytime, whatever their crisis may be."

8. Prince Harry

Like Prince William, Harry has followed in the steps of their charitable mother, the late Princess Diana.

Back in November 2020, he helped pack and deliver food to veterans and their families in need with the Walker Family Events Foundation.

That's certainly not the first time Harry has given back.

Back in April 2020, he and his wife, Meghan Markle, delivered meals through the Project Angel Food in Los Angeles.

They provide meals to those critically ill with AIDS and other health issues.

9. Nicki Minaj

The rapper has been secretly donating her time and money to villages in India for years now.

"This is the kind of thing that makes me feel the most proud," she wrote on Instagram. She's helped give them access to clean water, education, and technology.

10. Hilary Swank

As someone who comes from humble beginnings, the Million-Dollar Baby star loves to give back to those in need.

In the summer of 2006, she traveled to India to volunteer at an orphanage with children. She also worked as a teaching assistant.

The actor has co-founded the organization, Not On Our Watch, which helps victims of rape and torture in Sudan.

In 2012, he was even arrested during a protest at the Sudanese Embassy in Washington. “We are here really to ask two very simple questions,” Clooney before his arrest.

“The first question is something immediate – and immediately, we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world," he said.

The second question “is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That’s all we ask.”

The singer has a special place in her heart for Haiti. She had taken several trips over the years to do charity work with the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

In 2011 alone, she helped fit and distribute more than 400 hearing aids to those in need.

While there, she spent a lot of time with young children, hugging and chatting with them.

"That's a little boy named Emanuel :) we fit him w hearing aids... I've never seen a smile like his!" she tweeted at the time, adding "I can't wait to go back."
