Hilary Duff Wanted Her 9-Year-Old Son To See Her Give Birth

There are few things more complicated than the process of giving birth and raising a child. There are so many ways to do it (at home, water birth, in-hospital, with epidural, c-section, drug-free, induced labor — the list goes on) and there's no one right way that's better than all the others.

Hilary Duff made her own decisions about her recent birth, and explained why it was important for her for her son to be there too.

Hilary Duff recently gave birth to her third child, a daughter named Mae.

Hilary is also mom to a 9-year-old son, Luca, and a 2-year-old daughter, Banks.

In a recent podcast interview, Hilary explained that she wanted Luca present at the birth, saying, “It was kind of important for me because I’m really big on being open and honest with him about how strong women are and what childbirth looks like."

Hilary explained that she wanted the entire process to be normal for him.

“He knows all about periods and it’s important for me to normalize that conversation with him for all the women that are going to be in his life," she went on.

I'm sure a lot of us wished our husbands were more informed and aware about the birthing process!

Hilary also stated it was important for her son to know there was more than one way to give birth.

“I want him to someday when he’s ready to have a child with his partner or wife or whatever, I want him to be able to respect the way that she wants to be able to have a baby, and if that’s at home, that can be at home, if that’s in a hospital, it will be hospital,” she said.

"There’s many different ways.”

It's awesome that Hilary is so dedicated to making sure that her son is informed and aware of what so many women go through!
