Mom Turns Daughter's Room Into A 'Mini Jail' As Punishment For Not Cleaning It
One thing all parents struggle with is getting kids to clean up.

Whether it's cleaning common spaces in the house like the living room and kitchen, or trying to get kids to straighten up their bedrooms — kids always have an excuse for everything.
Recently, one mom on TikTok decided to teach her daughter a harsh life lesson.
The mom said she's part of the self-described "Mean Moms of TikTok" in the video. She decided to teach her daughter a lesson for her very, very messy room.
The mom said she and her husband gave her daughter a "week's notice" to clean her room.
She also said her daughter is a pre-teen and knows how to clean her room. But, the room was still messy. Not just a little messy, either. There were clothes, toys, and accessories covering the floor and spilling out of dresser drawers.
The mom said they gave her a deadline for when she needed to get it done.
Instead, her daughter decided to go outside and play rather than clean her room. So, they took action.
The mom and her husband cleaned the entire room but...
... they also took everything away from her. Her clothes, toys, makeup, and anything "fun" were all removed, the mom said. Her daughter was left with only her books and her shoes.
The mom said she'll give her daughter things back in "increments."
And, she'll pick out her daughter's outfit every day and give her it, for her to wear. Therefore, her daughter is learning that there are consequences for her actions.
Many people online had strong reactions to this.
Some said the mom was "way too harsh" on her pre-teen daughter and that some things shouldn't have been taken away, like her clothes. Others said it's not "teaching her" much.
One TikTok user said her dad did this to her when she was young.
Some parents take away TVs and computers, and others feel it is best to strip a room down to the bare essentials. There are a few different ways parents try to illustrate consequences to their kids.
One user said she had punishments like this as a child and benefitted from them.
This TikTok user said that her parents used similar punishment tactics and now she's more disciplined than her friends because of it.
The mom did provide an update in the comments.
The video ends before showing the daughter's reaction, but the mom did confirm that her daughter was quite upset. The mom didn't feel it was right to show her daughter's emotional response, but said her feelings were "valid".
However, the mom posted a follow-up video where her daughter speaks out about her reaction.
Her daughter said she was "shocked" at first, but it made her realize she should clean up her mess. The experience also made her realize her possessions and the importance of caring for them.
Many users were glad to see the mom didn't show the immediate aftermath.
In the follow-up video, the daughter was able to speak calmly about what happened. The young girl said she, "Learned to not destroy her room," from the experience.
Even though some people were still divided on this method, many people said, "Tough love is necessary".
In fact, some people were surprised to see that the daughter was able to keep her phone but not her clothes and toys. The mom said she already has strict rules with the phone, and her daughter mostly uses it to call her dad.
The daughter was also happy her "books" weren't taken away.
After seeing the video, and how this pre-teen valued her books more than her phone, some TikTok users said that, "The parenting is just fine" in this house.
