Fans Praise Donald Faison's Casting As Professor Utonium In 'PowerPuff Girls' Reboot

In case you haven't heard the exciting news yet, there is a live-action remake of The Powerpuff Girls in the works!

We repeat: A LIVE-ACTION REMAKE IN THE WORKS!

As if that wasn't exciting enough, the latest cast member to join the squad is Donald Faison as Professor Utonium.

These fan reactions to the news are a mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice!

Everyone remembers the *Powerpuff Girls*, right?

The show, which ran from 1998 to 2005 on the Cartoon Network, is a staple in many people's childhoods.

It followed the PowerPuff Girls — Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup — as they used their superpowers to help protect the world from evil. They were created by Professor Utonium.

There have been a few attempts at a reboot in the past.

First, there was The Powerpuff Girls Movie in 2002 and then the animated reboot of the series, which aired from 2016 to 2019.

With this new live-action version, this is the first time we'll see the characters come to life.

The live-action version, which will be simply called *Powerpuff*, promises to be a lot edgier than the cartoon.

It will follow the Powerpuff Girls in their 20s, as they contend with their adventurous childhoods of fighting crime.

Each is facing some sort of emotional turmoil. Bubbles, for instance, is longing for a life in the spotlight again.

So far, most of the central cast has been announced.

The show's titular stars will be played by familiar faces.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Chloe Bennet, who has been cast as Blossom; Disney's Descendants’ Dove Cameron who will play Bubbles; and then singer-songwriter Yana Perrault who will play Buttercup.

Definitely a perfect mixture of sugar, spice, and everything nice.

If you thought that casting was perfect, this next one is even sweeter: Donald Faison has been cast as Professor Utonium!

Scrubs fans will recognize him as Dr. Chris Turk. He's also appeared in the films, Clueless and Remember the Titans.

Similar to the Powerpuff Girls, Professor Utonium's role will be a bit grittier.

"Faison’s Professor Utonium is described as quirky, debonair, and a pinch narcissistic," Variety reports.

"He is a scientific genius who is immensely proud of the three extraordinary girls he created in his lab. Staring down a midlife crisis, he is determined to repair his relationships with his now-adult daughters."

We CAN'T WAIT to see Donald take on this complex role. And neither can the fans.

Soon after his casting was announced, they took to Twitter to praise the decision.

"Okay, but like seriously, I am so hyped Donald Faison is playing Professor Utonium in the PowerPuff Girls reboot. He's talented, charismatic and [expletive] funny. This could be great," wrote this user.

We already know he can handle comedy, as shown in the film *Big Fat Liar* or in his role as Dion's boyfriend in *Clueless*.

Remember when his character, Murray, decided to shave his head at a party? Hilarious.

Basically, he's well-equipped for the role. "I will watch anything Donald faison is in," tweeted this fan.

As a whole, people are happy with the cast's diversity.

"Shoutout to the new Powerpuff Girls for taking the concept and improving inclusivity and representation with the new cast. I know @donald_faison @chloebennet@DoveCameron @yanaperrault and the rest of the cast will do a fantastic job!" wrote this user.

Fans are also hoping to see Bliss, a Black character, in the reboot.

As you can imagine, Donald himself is excited!

"I tried so hard not to FLEX but I cant help it. I’m so excited!" he shared on Instagram on Tuesday. This led to more support comments from fans and celeb pals.

His daughter, Kaya, was also beaming with pride. "Yay dad! So proud of you❤️❤️" she wrote with two hearts.

Donald's casting is quickly transforming the show into a must-watch.

"He's a fantastic actor and he'd be an amazing dad to the Powerpuff girls! 10/10 casting!" shared this Twitter user.

"I really need this show to stop casting people that make me interested," added another.
