'Sister Wives' Kody Brown Says Marriage With Meri 'Dissolved' After Catfishing Scandal

One of the greatest parts of reality TV is getting to see all the ups and downs of lifestyles that are so different from your own. For instance, I would probably never be a part of a plural or polygamist marriage like the families on Sister Wives, but watching the show lets me see just how complicated those situations can be.

Kody Brown and his first wife Meri have been married for 30 years.

During a recent episode, the couple discussed hardships and issues in their marriage after Meri was accused of purposefully withholding information from Kody. "It's going to make him look like a jerk for not calling me and me look like a jerk for not calling him. We do not communicate," Meri said at the time.

Meri also joked, "Just stay away from me. Just stay away from me, Kody," referring to social distancing mesaures.

"That didn't work out very well for you the last time around. I don't think you should say that to me anymore," Kody responded with a laugh.

Kody then explained he was referring to an incident in 2015 where Meri was catfished by a female admirer pretending to be a man interested in her.

"I was joking about Meri during the catfish. She basically, during that experience — I mean, it's a sore subject," Kody said. "About five years ago, Meri and I were in a bad place," he continued.

"She basically asked me to stop staying at her house and ultimately what happened is she went through an experience where she was catfished by a person pretending to be somebody else."

Kody added that the relationship "turned out to be extremely exploitative and abusive. And from that experience, Meri and I sort of saw our marriage just dissolve."

"I said to him, 'Can you just not stay here for a while. Can we just take a break for a minute?'" Meri added. "He took it at as, 'Go away and don't ever come back,' because that's what he's done."

"We've never come back together from that," Meri went on.

However, Kody added, "In the past few months, I've been able to really let that go for myself. And I feel more friendly with Meri than I have felt in six or more years."

We hope everything can work out for the best for Kody and Meri!
