Get Designer Accessories On The Cheap With Help From A TikTok Hack

I love a good DIY on a budget, especially if it's bougie.

TikTokker @_xfaye did exactly that when she realized her Dior mascara had a gorgeous silver ring on the tube. So, using some DIY skills and so true ingenuity, she turned something she'd usually throw out into a piece of jewelry for herself!

This hack is a true two-for-one.

Not only do you get a really cool DIY out of it, but you get a truly excellent mascara. Seriously, Dior mascara is some of the best luxury mascara. Chanel who?

Okay, so here's what you'll need.

Pick up a DiorShow mascara and a box cutter. I would recommend actually using the mascara until it's done, because that mascara is actually great and makes your lashes look amazing.

Peep that ring.

I mean, right? You can see how @_xfaye got the idea! Commenters argued over whether the ring was metal or plastic, and I still don't have a clear answer for you. I suspect it's metal, however.

It pops right off!

Once you break open the tube with your box cutter, the ring will slide right off the tube. Pop it on your finger, and you're good to go!

However...

She took it one step further.

Time to grab some spray paint! Now, Faye did not prep before she spray-painted, which I don't recommend. If you want your paint to actually stick, you need to use a primer.

Boom, gold.

I'm an even bigger fan of this, since I am a gold girl all the way. Silver has no place in my life, you know? Anyway, Faye did a really good job and this ring is so cute!

A quick tip:

Make sure you pick up the right DiorShow. The one Faye is using DiorShow New Look, which has a very different tube from regular DiorShow. If you can't find it, Iconic OverCurl also has a cute ring.

Commenters were super helpful with sizing.

It looks like the ring is about size 5 1/2. There's probably a bit of flexibility there, but I'd guess it's no bigger than that. If you can pull that off on any of your fingers, go for it!

Someone else pointed out a CRUCIAL bit of info.

Apparently, YSL's lipstick has rings, too, and they actually have fun colors underneath! Check them out here. I definitely would go for one of those, since some of them already gold.

Some users had some tips for giving it longevity.

If you don't want your painted ring to mess your finger up, coat the inside with a bit of clear nail polish. It'll keep the gold from rubbing off onto your skin!

If you don't have tiny fingers, there's still options for you!

For those that don't have size 5.5 fingers (and that's very few of us, let's be real), you could string the ring onto a necklace and wear it like that!

Others totally understood the assignment.

I mean, sure. You could throw that whole tube out and get nothing else from it. OR you could have some fun doing a DIY and get a cute ring out of it!

And yeah, it's pretty hard to find that mascara now.

I haven't been able to find it on Sephora or Dior's website, but it is available on Amazon right now. TikTok has a special ability to completely sell a product out the second it goes viral.

So, would you try this?

It's an easy, designer DIY for $30, and you get a really good makeup product out of it. I don't see the downside, tbh! I can't wait to try this for myself.
