Man Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Slide From Playground To Mount On Bunk Bed

There have to be far too many cases that police officers can't talk about for one sensitive reason or another, and that's probably a good thing. Because when some truly weird ones come along, they get to spill some serious tea, and it's crazy to hear the kinds of things police can encounter.

Just take this story out of Washington state that police couldn't help sharing with the public.

Back in December 2020, a slide disappeared from a playground in Pasco, Washington.

One day it was just kind of...gone. Which is a strange thing to happen on its own — slides are fun and all, but there's more to them than appears, as the slide in question weighs in at about 400 pounds. You have to be pretty determined to get something like that home, right?

Well, it turns out the thief had a plan for it. That plan just didn't involve Pasco Police Detective Julie Lee.

Now, imagine Detective Lee, investigating an unrelated case, coming face-to-face with the missing slide in a suspect's *bedroom*.

Because that's where she found it. At the home investigating an unrelated series of thefts of catalytic converters, Lee entered a child's bedroom, and there it was.

It had been "taken, the top sawed off, it was repainted, and it was mounted on a bunkbed," a police statement read.

Just for good measure, Detective Lee posed with the slide. How often do you get to do that?

And yes, Detective Lee and her colleagues also found the catalytic converters in question.

So, all in all, it ended up being a good day for Pasco Police, and a bad day for Dustin Allen Bushnell, a 30-year-old from Burbank, Washington who now faces charges on possession of stolen property for the slide. Charges over the car parts have yet to be filed against anyone pending further investigation.
