3-Year-Old Boy Runs Into Grandma's Arms After 15 Months Spent Apart Due To COVID

The last time 3-year-old Trax saw his grandmother, it was Christmas 2019. Just a few months later, the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, and with so many social distancing measures in place, the young boy would be forced to go more than an entire year without being able to see his beloved "Nana Jean" face-to-face.

"All he ever said was, 'I wanna go to Nana's, I miss my Nan,'" Trax's mom, Kelsey Chvala, told WTAE. "And it just breaks our heart."

The time spent apart wasn't any easier for his grandmother, 71-year-old Jean Chvala of Ford City, Pennsylvania.

"It was hard," she told the outlet. "But I FaceTimed him and then I got to talk to him, you know through video chat. But it was hard not being with him."

In total, the pair went 15 months without seeing each other. But thankfully, that all came to an end earlier this month after Nana Jean received her second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

After picking up her son from daycare one day, Kelsey told Trax they were going to go to the playground.

There, Nana Jean stood waiting for her grandson with her arms wide open, ready to finally have their first hug after 15 long months apart.

Upon spotting his grandma, Trax broke into a run and threw himself into her arms for a big, much-needed embrace.

It was a moment that both of them had been waiting a long time for.

"The reaction was absolutely priceless and filled our hearts with so much love," Kelsey WTAE. "It makes me want to tear up right now because it's just such a precious moment that we haven't had."

Kelsey, who is Jean's daughter-in-law, captured the emotional reunion on her phone in a video that has since gone viral.

"I missed you so much," Jean can be heard saying in the clip, which was posted to Facebook.

"Getting to see his Nana for the first time since Christmas," Kelsey captioned the video. "Why we vaccinated...this is everything."
