We Don't Know Who Needs To Hear This, But Subway Tile Is Not The Only Tile Out There

I know. This is a very big opinion, and not everyone is going to want to hear this — especially if your house is full of subway tile.

But guys. This trend is so overdone by now. All I see when I browse Instagram renovations is white cupboards, black cabinets, and subway tile backsplashes. There's an infinite amount of tiles out there, so why does every kitchen have subway tile?

The argument for subway tile used to be its affordability.

Let's be clear: This is a very good reason and a totally fair one. However, tiles have come a very long way, and there's a huge range of them available for the same price (or cheaper!).

At this point, subway tiles are... okay, I'm just going to say it. They are boring. They're so boring and so basic.

I swear, Instagram has done this to us.

Every house on Instagram is the same: bright white subway tile, paired with white grout for that classic look, or black for an "edge." Sometimes, the tiles will even be — gasp — vertical, instead of horizontal!

Please. I am begging you to not make your house look like the houses on Instagram, just because you want it to look trendy.

It's time to make your house weird again.

You don't have to do every popular trend on Instagram! Your house is yours to love and live in, so why not make it reflect you? Find something that really vibes with you and turn your kitchen into a happy place full of designs that you truly love.

For instance, this kitchen here! Is it my taste? No. But do I love that it's not friggin' subway tile? YES.

There's so much more to the world than subway tile.

So, who's with me? Let's get that subway tile down and do unique stuff to your house! Hell, paint over it if you have to! Do something fun and person with your tile that screams, "I ditched Instagram aesthetics for my own weirdo taste."

Goodbye, all-white kitchens. We will not miss you.
