Mom On TikTok Praised For Teaching Her Daughters Virginity Doesn't Exist

Many parents have different methods when it comes to teaching their children about life. Some parents stick to the old-fashioned ways of their parents and grandparents, and others branch out and do things differently.

When moms and dads try "new" parenting methods out, it can be controversial or called "strange" by those who are used to the traditional ways.

One thing parents always struggle with is the "birds and the bees."

Many parents often struggle with talking to their kids about sex and the concept of virginity. Sex education can be stressful for parents who aren't quite sure how to approach the conversation.

There are several ways to approach sex education.

One thing parents usually approach is the concept of "losing your virginity" during your first time. Many parents opt to tell their kids that the first time should be "special."

Recently, one TikTok video went viral of a mom who has a new approach to it.

Responding to a TikTok trend asking parents to "Name something about the way you raise your kids that people think is weird but you think it's healthy," a mom spoke out about teaching her daughters that the concept of virginity does not "exist."

The mom on TikTok known as @book_mama shared her reasoning in a video.

She explained that she has five daughters and she is raising them all to believe that the concept of "virginity" does not exist. While it seems crazy at first, she explains why.

The mom explained that virginity is a social construct.

"It is a patriarchal concept used to control women and serves no purpose, other than making women feel bad about ourselves," the mom says in her video.

She does not want her daughters' worth to be tied to their sexual experience.

The mom elaborated saying that having sex for the first time "... does not change who you are, it doesn't do anything other than it happened," she continued.

She does say that sex is still important.

"Sex is important. It's a big deal. It should always be a big deal. It has nothing to do with your first time . . . it's just ridiculous. The whole concept is ridiculous," she continues.

Many people online praised the mom for her bravery and decision to teach her daughters this way.

Many users said that this woman's daughters will have healthy mindsets when they do choose to be sexually active one day.

Others said boys and sons should hear this conversation, too.

Many moms on the thread said they want to teach their sons this concept, too, as they should not look down on women who are no longer "virgins."

And, some even felt their entire perception changed.

Some moms said they came to the video totally disagreeing until they heard what the mom had to say entirely. And, that it makes so much sense.

Even some religious individuals agreed with this mom.

One wife of a pastor commented saying that they also agreed that "purity culture" is toxic, too.

Some parents had questions.

One parent had a question about what the mom would do when her daughters go to school and everyone talks about virginity constantly.

Others wanted more advice on how to start this conversation.

Other parents wanted the mom to make an entire series with some tips and tricks, because they want to do this, too but are not sure where to start.

How do you feel about this parenting style?
