Prince Harry Gets Candid About Stepping Back From Royal Life: 'I Need To Get My Family Out Of Here'

In an unprecedented move (and for once, I'm not using that word to talk about the pandemic), Prince Harry joined late-night host James Corden for a segment that can only be described as pure bliss. It was almost enough to keep a smile on my face for the whole 17-minute video, so that's saying a lot.

There's no denying Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced an unfair amount of criticism from the press.

Their decision to step down as senior royals came as a surprise to no one who has been following the pair over the past year.

Now, Prince Harry is getting more candid than ever in a new interview with Late Late Show host James Corden.

In the video released Friday called "An Afternoon with Prince Harry & James Corden," the pair toured around California and chatted about life, love and leaving the royal family.

The pair cruised around downtown on a classic tourist double-decker bus.

The interview started off on a serious note, with Harry explaining to James about the toll the public life was taking on him and his young family.

"It was never walking away — it was stepping back, rather than stepping down,” the 36-year-old clarified.

"It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw," he continued.

"We all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health. I was like, ‘This is toxic.’"

“So I did what any husband and what any father would do, is like, I need to get my family out of here.”

Don't mind me, just wiping tears away from my eyes thinking about how proud Diana would be of her sons for doing what's best for their families.

The pair also discussed the popular Netflix series, *The Crown*.

"They don’t pretend to be news. It’s fictional. But it’s loosely based on the truth. Of course, it’s not strictly accurate, of course not, but loosely it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that," Harry explained.

As fans know, the duke and duchess of Sussex moved into a home in Montecito, California, to raise their son, Archie, and grow their young family.

However, despite the move, Harry explained that he and Meghan did not abandon their duties.

"We never walked away," Harry clarified.

"And as far as I’m concerned, whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away, will always be contributing, but my life is public service, so wherever I am in the world, it’s going to be the same thing."

The interview also featured James taking Harry to the *Fresh Prince of Bel-Air* house and FaceTiming Meghan.

Can someone please tell me what she does to look so beautiful on these calls? Everyone I FaceTime just asks me if I'm "tired" or "on the verge of fainting" — so rude!

Fans were *obsessed* with the video. It was so nice seeing how happy Megs and Harry are together in California!

"you can see his happiness even through his mask," tweeted one fan.

"Right! His eyes are smiling!" agreed another.

If this James Corden segment is any indicator of how good the pair's upcoming Oprah interview will be, I can't wait to see it!
