Michelle Obama Has Been Named 2019’s Most Admired Woman In The World

Every generation has its heroes, and as time has passed, they've grown numerous and diverse, proving that representation in media really does matter.

Every year, the market research firm YouGov does a worldwide survey in order to determine who the most admired men and women are on earth at any given moment in time, and this year definitely had some surprises.

On top: former First Lady Michelle Obama

That's right— our beloved Michelle Obama is the most admired woman in the entire world in 2019.

Though the world's love for Michelle isn't at all a surprise, this is the first year that she managed to beat Angelina Jolie for the coveted number one spot. This year, Jolie is in third.

Michelle Obama beat out some high profile contenders.

Oprah Winfrey came in second, and Queen Elizabeth ll came in fourth.

Other famed honorable mentions include Hilary Clinton in eighth, Taylor Swift in ninth, Madonna and Ellen DeGeneres in tenth and eleventh, and First Lady Melania Trump in nineteenth.

Human rights activist and former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates took 2019's number one spot as the most admired man in the world, just ahead of former President Barack Obama.

Places third through fifth included Jackie Chan, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Alibaba founder Jack Ma.

Even President Trump made the list.

Trump managed to secure the number fourteen spot, while Vladimir Putin was voted the tenth most admired man in the world this year.
