Starbucks’ New Tie-Dye Frappuccino Gives The Unicorn Frapp A Groovy Upgrade

So I'll be the first to admit I'm not that adventurous when it comes to my Starbucks order.

I know there are lots of fantastic drinks to try, but considering the price of some of these beverages, and the very real possibility I won't like them, I'm more inclined to stick to what I know and love, and maybe steal a sip or two from a friend whose wild side extends to their coffee order.

That being said, I never tried Starbucks' famous Unicorn Frappuccino, and I've always regretted it. So maybe this time I'll give peace a chance and plunge into the frothy, multi-color goodness that is the new Tie-Dye Frappuccino.

This thing truly looks like the kind of brightly colored explosion our Starbucks drinks have been missing.

Put aside those beigey-brown drinks you know and love for a second and consider dipping a straw into this absolute tropical dream.

Tell me the Tie-Dye frapp doesn't just scream "summer" at you. What could be more summer than Starbucks and tie-dye?

So before we get too excited about the Instagram potential of this beautiful beverage, let's look at what it's made of.

According to Delish, each drink is crème-based, so you won't be getting a caffeine boost from these things. But I'm sure the inevitable sugar rush will compensate for that nicely.

The drink is made with your choice of milk, ice, and crème Frappuccino syrup, with the addition of vanilla whipped cream.

Oh and, of course, a multitude of natural food coloring to make those beautiful tie-dye swirls of red, yellow, and blue.

In fact, those vibrant colors come courtesy of turmeric, red beet, and spirulina, so no artificial coloring here. This thing is au naturel.

Oh, and did I mention there's a generous dose of colorful sugar sprinkled on top of the whipped cream, just in case there wasn't enough tie-dye in this drink already?

There's no denying this thing is beautiful, but what exactly does it taste like?

Well, according to Starbucks themselves, each beverage is "deliciously fruity." If that's not enough of an answer, lots of people online say it tastes tropical, with some speculating there's definitely pineapple and banana in there. So if that sounds like your kind of drink, you'll fall head over heels for this thing.

And in true fancy Starbucks frapp fashion, each grande size comes in at a whopping 400 calories, so you may not want to indulge too much.

Since the frapp first launched at Starbucks locations on July 10, consumer reviews have been a little mixed.

Of course, everyone is loving the totally awesome Instagram pics these drinks are offering up. But as for the taste? Not so much.

"I love Starbucks but I was not a fan of this," Instagram user @junkfoodonthego wrote. "This is a Banana based Frappuccino and the flavor is rather artificial tasting for me.

Another said it tastes like liquid "Banana Laffy Taffy", and a delicious drink this doesn't make, apparently.

If you're interested in giving this spectacularly unusual blend a try, you may want to hurry.

The Tie-Dye Frappuccino won't be around long. In fact, according to Starbucks, it's only going to be available in stores for a few days. This might have something to do with the time and effort it takes for baristas to whip one up.

Just like the Unicorn Frapp, these drinks aren't as easy as throwing some crème into a blender with a multitude of colors. Let's have a brief moment of silence for every barista out there having to expertly make these ridiculous things over and over again.

So, any curious tasters had better run out to their local Starbucks and give this thing a try while supplies (and baristas' patience) last.
