Woody From 'Toy Story' Actually Has A Last Name And We're Freaking Out

Wow uh... well, this one threw me for a loop.

Well, it looks like I was today years old when I found out that Woody had a last name.

Let's talk "Toy Story"

Disney

Because I love, it, you love it, even that old curmudgeon Mr. Wilson down the lane who always yells at the neighborhood children loves that pioneer of CG animated films.

I mean...

Disney

At this point, it's practically a cultural phenomenon. Actually, not "practically" it is a cultural phenomenon.

After you make yourself a franchise, it would be remiss of me to call it anything else.

For starters...

Disney

Not only did the first one blow up and pretty much revolutionize animation forever, but the other three have been cemented into the hearts of people all around the world.

And now...

Disney

We've got a fourth movie coming out, which looks, of course, to be hilarious.

Depending on how this one does, we might even get a fifth. These movies might never end!

As for me...

Disney

I thought I knew everything Toy Story. The Easter Eggs, the characters, everything.

I've written several articles on the subject, and I've seen the movies 80 billion times, so why wouldn't I be?

However...

Disney

Never count your chickens before they hatch... or never believe you're the resident Toy Story expert until you've read the Wiki page top to bottom.

Those two sayings mean the same thing, right?

Anyways...

Giphy

I discovered recently that Woody, yes, our Sherrif Woody... has a last name.

Oh yeah, like you, I couldn't believe it. I always thought it was "howdy howdy howdy".

Are you ready for it?

Wikipedia

Alright... here it goes... Woody's last name is... Pride.

That's right, the loveable, sometimes malicious Sherrif of Andy's room is named Woody Pride. My mind. It's exploding. Or is it imploding? I don't even know anymore.

"But Jake, But Jake"

Disney

I hear you, the children of the internet, bleat.

"You can't use Wikipedia as a source, our teachers in grade school told us one time that it was a bad source"

Well, then how about this!

Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich said this about Woody's name. Apparently, it has always been this way. And, because the director of one of the films said it, it must be canon.

Boom.

Apparently...

Those of you who played Kingdom Hearts 3 already knew this, because his name was plastered all over some art.

I, on the other hand, did not play Kingdom Hearts 3, so I remained surprised until this moment.

There are some of you...

Who believe you're better than the rest of us because "you already knew that".

Like this person down here, sitting up on his high Woody's last name knowing horse.

Listen...

Disney

I always just assumed he was a toy and didn't have a last name. Does Rex have a last name?

Does Hamm? Does Mr. Potato Head have a first name?

However, most people...

Are reacting like any normal person would, as in they're incredibly surprised. And why wouldn't you be?

This is a huge part of your childhood that's just being revealed to you now.

What do you think?

Disney

Did you know about this? Huh? And if so, why was I not immediately contacted? Is there anything else I should know?

Like, does Simba from the Lion King have a fifth paw or something?
