Netflix Greenlights New Show That's Like A Samurai Version Of 'Game Of Thrones'

I know I speak for all of us when I say we're steeling reeling from that final season of Game of Thrones. I won't give away any spoilers of course, although it's wonder anyone's been able to go this long without hearing any. But I will say that the final season, while not quite satisfying for some, was definitely a wild ride.

Unfortunately for us, like with most good things, GOT had to come to an end. And now we're left browsing our streaming services aimlessly, wondering just what exactly we should watch next.

Thankfully, Netflix is here to save the day and bring you a brand new show you can become obsessed with.

According to Deadline, the streaming service has announced the launch of a brand new series that might feel a little familiar in the best way possible.

Age of Samurai is a docu-drama that apparently has a bit of a Game of Thrones-type of vibe to it. Or at least, that's how it's being billed.

The show will cover a cataclysmic feud between two warring Japanese kingdoms led by power-hungry lords.

So it already sounds pretty epic, right?

We already know that one of the lead characters (who also happens to be one of those aforementioned feuding warlords) is named Date Masamune. His nickname is "the One-Eyed Dragon" because (get this) apparently he removed his own eye while battling a smallpox infection.

Date Masamune is actually a real person from Japanese history who has inspired lots of your favorite pop culture icons.

You Darth Vader, right? Remember his iconic look, with the black cape and that black helmet that basically just never left his head? Yeah, that was apparently inspired by Date Masamune's own samurai helmet. So that's actually pretty cool.

The best part about this entire series is that it's being produced by Smithsonian Canada.

So while you can definitely expect to see plenty of violence (that's kind of a given) and also lots of drama (definitely a given, too), you can also expect to learn a lot about the history of Japan and the influence of samurai warriors.

The series is expected to hit Netflix accounts in the US and Canada later this year, so make sure you keep an eye out!
