Mom Outraged After Toddler's Daycare Lets Her Burn Her Feet On Hot Asphalt

I have a lot of respect for good childcare workers. It takes a ton of dedication and heart to care for other people's children.

But I also suffered through some really terrible daycare experiences as a child. Terrible enough that I not only remember them vividly, but it's left me wary of the entire childcare system.

The fact of the matter is that working parents are a captive market and some people are more than willing to take advantage of it.

Even if a daycare opens with the best of intentions, standards can slip when budgets are tight or kids are unruly.

Parents trust that when they send their children to daycare, that they will, well, be taken care of.

Daycare workers are meant to carry out the duties that parents would normally take on during the day while they're at work.

But, unfortunately, we've all heard daycare stories that nightmares are made of.

Unfortunately, some daycare facilities just don't hire workers that aren't aggressive and genuinely enjoy caring for kids.

An incident at a daycare center in Brenham, Texas has police investigating.

Tiffanie Cedillo dropped her 16-month-old daughter off as usual at the Wee Care For All daycare on Monday morning.

She headed to work, trusting that her little girl would be taken care of.

But that afternoon, Tiffanie received a call at work from the daycare.

They told her that her daughter had burns on her feet, prompting Tiffanie to record the rest of the call.

"Is it bad?" she asks the employee on the line.

Their response was less than helpful: "Well it's a little umm… it don't look too good."

Tiffanie insisted that they send her a photo of the burns and she immediately went to pick her child up and take her to the ER.

KBTX

"She was screaming when I went to go pick her up,” Tiffanie told KBTX.

The little girl was treated for second degree burns.

The cause? The daycare had decided to send her outside to play in bare feet, where the afternoon sun heated up the asphalt.

The daycare tried to explain their rationale to Tiffanie.

Earlier that day, her daughter had suffered a messy case of diarrhea. They'd cleaned her up, but the mess had gotten into her shoes.

While it's understandable that they'd want to avoid making her wear poopy shoes, their choice of alternative is definitely questionable.

Whatever their reasoning, there is no excuse why the child was sent out without shoes on.

Most of us know how hot pavement can become in the summer.

Pavement can actually feel at least 30 degrees hotter than the temperature outside.

Children are also at higher risk for severely burning their feet because how thin their skin is.

It might seem harmless, but not paying extra care and attention to any potential safety concerns can end up being pretty bad.

"It was almost a hundred degrees yesterday,” Tiffanie said.

"It’s just common sense you don't send kids out barefoot on the playground."

Tiffanie wants the public to know about what happened so that others can hopefully prevent future incidents like this from happening.

"My child was neglected and I would like for people to know that."

She says that she plans to pursue legal action.

According to KBTX, they attempted to contact the owner of the daycare but were unsuccessful. The daycare's Facebook page has also been closed down.
