Avengers: Endgame broke a lot of hearts for a lot of different reasons.
But Thor was the topic of conversation for weeks. In fact, he still is.
He was still the muscular God of Thunder that we were used to.
But after a time jump, he changed quite a bit.
And the weight gain was seriously not the biggest issue at all.
He was drinking, having anxiety attacks, and severely depressed.
Which, is pretty awful. Who cares if he gained weight?
It doesn't make him any less Thor.
But they just weren't happy that his weight gain was being used as a joke.
However, they were glad that Marvel was showing a god with very human emotions.
In a new interview with Variety, Hemsworth mentioned that during the battle, he was actually supposed to magically lose the weight.
He said, "I enjoyed that version of Thor. It was so different than any other way I played the character. And then it took on a life of its own."
“I like that anything goes,” Hemsworth says. “You’re not locked into expectations.”
“Boy, did he go bonkers,” RDJ told Variety.
“He went out to the bleeding edge. I have a rule, which is if you think you’re at 70%, then start pulling back, because it’s probably at 105. He went out into some pretty risky atmosphere of nuttiness.”
Personally, I thought his characterization was amazing.
