Chris Hemsworth Didn't Want Thor To Lose Weight In 'Avengers: Endgame'

Ah, Chris Hemsworth. He is one of Hollywood's favorite actors right now.

The same holds true for the character he has played for years now: Thor. His most recent role took place in Avengers: Endgame.

In case you weren't aware, people had some thoughts about 'Endgame'.

Avengers: Endgame broke a lot of hearts for a lot of different reasons.

Although the movie does offer conclusions for the characters' narrative arcs, there were some scenes that fans questioned.

But Thor was the topic of conversation for weeks. In fact, he still is.

At the start of the film, we see Thor in the same way we saw him in 'Infinity War'.

He was still the muscular God of Thunder that we were used to.

But after a time jump, he changed quite a bit.

Thor looked completely different.

And the weight gain was seriously not the biggest issue at all.

He was drinking, having anxiety attacks, and severely depressed.

Some people started hating on Thor literally just because he was fat.

Which, is pretty awful. Who cares if he gained weight?

It doesn't make him any less Thor.

Other fans really enjoyed this new look.

But they just weren't happy that his weight gain was being used as a joke.

However, they were glad that Marvel was showing a god with very human emotions.

So, what does Chris Hemsworth think about his character?

In a new interview with Variety, Hemsworth mentioned that during the battle, he was actually supposed to magically lose the weight.

But Hemsworth didn't think that losing the weight would do justice to the character.

He said, "I enjoyed that version of Thor. It was so different than any other way I played the character. And then it took on a life of its own."

He called himself "Lebowski Thor," referencing the slacker character played by Jeff Bridges in 'The Big Lebowski.'

“I like that anything goes,” Hemsworth says. “You’re not locked into expectations.”

His 'Avengers' costar, Iron Man, played by Robert Downy Jr., actually praised Chris Hemsworth.

“Boy, did he go bonkers,” RDJ told Variety.

“He went out to the bleeding edge. I have a rule, which is if you think you’re at 70%, then start pulling back, because it’s probably at 105. He went out into some pretty risky atmosphere of nuttiness.”

What did you think about Thor in 'Avengers: Endgame'?

Personally, I thought his characterization was amazing.
