Maid Left Furniture Out In The Sun So Her Employers Tied Her To A Tree

We'd all like to think we're the perfect employee, but the reality is we all make mistakes every now and again. It's how we handle these mistakes that makes us good employees or bad.

Now, there's also something to be said about how our employers handle our mistakes, too.

A good example of a bad reaction would be something like, oh I don't know, tying a woman to a tree.

Believe it or not, that's exactly the kind of punishment this maid's employers chose.

According to Daily Mail, 26-year-old Lovely Acosta Baruelo, a mother of two from the Philippines, had been working as a maid for a wealthy Saudi Arabian family for several months.

One day, she accidentally left a piece of expensive furniture outside, exposing it to damaging sunlight.

The sun posed the risk of fading the furniture. It's not clear if any damage was actually done or not, but action was still apparently necessary.

This oversight reportedly angered her employers to the point of deciding they needed to punish Lovely.

So, naturally, they tied her to a tree.

What? That's not what your employers do when you mess up at work?

Lovely's colleague and fellow maid took photos of the alleged punishment and uploaded them to Facebook, showing Lovely with her wrists and legs tied around the trunk of a tree. The colleague also said this was the sort of punishment they regularly faced at the hands of their employers.

Apparently, this punishment was meant to show Lovely the effects of being left outside in the sun.

It definitely seems like the family's intention was a "see how you like it" sort of deal, and we're still of the opinion that this was a huge overreaction.

The Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs was made aware of the punishment and helped Lovely return home.

Lovely has now returned to the Philippines but has reportedly asked for help concerning other Filipino workers left in Saudi Arabia.

"I am afraid for their safety. I hope they get rescued too."

She also issued a warning to her former employer: "'You old man will find your karma, just you wait. Keep deducting our salaries. This is the reason why you have poor health. It's your karma for all the wrong things you did."
