22+ People Who Tried DIY Beauty, And Oh God No

I'll be the first person to complain about how expensive beauty care has become.

You can barely shop at Sephora without taking out a loan first, and getting a spa treatment is so expensive that it's now a once-in-a-lifetime event reserved for your parents on their 50th wedding anniversary.

Suffice to say, I don't blame anybody for cutting corners at home.

Not everyone is down to pay $32 for a Beauty Blender.

I mean, why bother when you can buy a paint sponge at the dollar store? Just tear off the handle and you're on your way!

Sure, it'll feel a little rough on your skin. But application and exfoliation for a dollar? Can't beat it.

While you're at it, why not visit the hardware store?

Going au naturel is great, but sometimes you're in the mood for full coverage.

If there's no makeup sponge in sight, rummage through your dad's toolbox for a trowel. Then smooth out your foundation like you're filling cracks in a wall.

Putting your eyeshadow palette in the oven seemed like a good idea at first.

Instagram | @kalognomos

OK, let's be honest — it didn't seem like a "good" idea per se. Just an idea.

For those who don't know, you can briefly put a palette in the oven if you want to remove the shadow pots.

Important: Do not overbake.

The latest face mask trend: toilet paper.

Twitter | @cielitiooooo

What? You think that looks ridiculous?

You know what else looks ridiculous? Contouring, baking your foundation, foaming face masks, lip plumpers...the list goes on and on. Don't question it!

OK, if you're really not down with the toilet paper thing, you could try paper towel instead.

Twitter | @LiconTracee

The results won't be as noticeable, but it's your call.

This is why they call it a sheet mask. It's one sheet of paper towel.

Serious question: Can marshmallows be used to apply foundation?

Twitter | @okneverok

Because that would save me a lot of money. Plus, I could just wash the marshmallow off and eat it afterward.

I'm kidding. Settle down.

Real talk: this is intelligent AF.

I know we're supposed to be talking about DIY attempts, but I had to share this one with you guys.

Twitter | @Tally_Knopp

Alright, fine. Nobody says that.

You know what? Never mind. People do say: When in doubt, microwave it.

Twitter | @VTT_torii

Why else would people be microwaving their Beauty Blenders?

Obviously, this DIY didn't work out, but I am thoroughly enjoying this visual tale of microwaved beauty products.
