Mom Braids Her Way To Daughter's Crazy Hair Day Win Thanks To 'The Little Mermaid'

Growing up, I got haircuts pretty regularly, which meant that I generally had short hair. And aside from a brief period where I wanted long hair and blue dye so I could look like a video game character, I've preferred to keep it short for most of my life.

Of course, when crazy hair days would loom at school, this preference didn't give me much to work with. As a result, I didn't really give much thought to crazy hair day, but many of my classmates certainly did.

But although one kid filled his hair with the blue paint that I once craved, it was rare for any of them to go as hard as one Texas family did.

As far as a lot of kids were concerned, crazy hair day might as well have been called "messy hair day."

Whether their parents were too busy to set them up with something truly wild or they just liked the idea of going to school without grooming themselves, this was generally what you could expect to see.

Well, minus the facial hair if the kids were young enough.

Still, at least a couple of kids would usually team up with their parents to create something a little more special.

For those kids, days like these were a chance to not only wow everyone with the concept, but also the execution.

After all, somebody even remembered the sea foam in this case.

However, one mom was determined to beat the competition with one very well-placed doll.

With some careful braiding and a little green paint, this little girl's hair could now give Ariel's familiar tail back to her.

And the more we know about this family, the clearly it is that she was destined to go with this hairstyle.

And no, it's no coincidence that the girl's older sister is named Ariel.

As Ariel tweeted out, both children grew up loving mermaids because of their parents' passion for them.

And they didn't stop with the nautical themes once their eldest child arrived, either.

Indeed, the girl who spent all day with Ariel in her hair is named Atlantis.

As much as I've always liked my name, answering to Atlantis every time the teacher called roll would make me feel like a champ.

It's just one of those inherently impressive-sounding names.

Some may have noticed that Atlantis' hair doesn't technically have a fishtail braid.

As Ariel explained, although that type of braid would definitely be thematically appropriate, it's also significantly harder to do than what Atlantis ended up with.

Yet, as Ariel said, her mom definitely succeeded in making Atlantis' hair look like a mermaid.

In fact, she was so successful at it that it turns out this style won the entire crazy hair contest. It's unclear if this victory came with a prize, but winning is sweet in and of itself.

With over 130,000 retweets and 719,000 likes, Atlantis' hair made just as much of an impression on Twitter as it did in her class.

And as one user revealed, she had a similar idea for her daughter three years ago. Also, for those wondering what a fishtail braid actually looks like, this is apparently a good example.
